We stayed after visiting family at Xmas in WSM (my husband is originally from there). Typically, we would choose a premier Inn however, we were late booking so rooms were n/a. Looking at our location and such, we were deciding between the Grosvenor and the Royal, choosing the Grosvenor in the end based on price and overall reviews. On arrival to check in, our booking could not be found, despite giving the reference number. The hotel reception were quick to resolve this and gave us an alternative room, though it was single beds rather than a double. It was one night, so didn't matter. Glad we had a booking. They even offered breakfast on the hotel as an apology. They called us again once we got to our room to tell us that our original booking has been found so we returned to reception to swap keys. Breakfast was still offered as an apology. Our new double room was located at the front of the property, overlooking the car park and road which is fairly busy. We had clean towels each (though they are small - not bath sheets) and a hand soap. The room had a hairdryer and a small Basic TV with remote. Shampoo/conditioner/shower gel is not provided but I saw that it was available at reception - not sure if this was an additional cost as we did not require it (brought our own). The shower head seemed to be stuck on the same setting, we could not adjust it to get a wider spray. Shower was okay and usable for ours purpose but not the best I've had. It's an old building, so our floor was squeaky and uneven in places. This doesn't detract from the stay but worth mentioning if this concerns you. My husband didn't mind the bed however I found it a bit lumpy and uncomfortable due to being able to feel the springs through the sheets. There are extra pillows available should you need them but they are all very soft so be aware if you like firmer pillows for support. Funnily enough, it wasn't the main road outside that was noisy. We could hear conversations outside our room, general talking and walking/moving around through the door. I felt like I didn't want to talk or move about for fear our neighbours could hear us in the adjoining rooms. There was also a gap beneath the fire door (main door to the room) which meant that in the event of a fire, smoke would quickly fill the room. This let in a draught every now and again. The room was warm however. Neither of us got a decent night's sleep unfortunately. We did go down to breakfast in the morning (8-9am weekdays) but we were put off from partaking as the room was fairly full and felt rather stuffy. It would have been lovely to have breakfast in the bar area as it's light and airy up there. Sadly, not an option so we headed out to Gregg's for a bacon roll instead after checking out. Though the hotel is friendly and the rooms generally clean and equipped with bare necessities. We wouldn't stay again but that is personal preference for us.
