Decided to stay for New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day, as previously we had treated ourselves to a New Year’s Day stay. Everything was perfect from when we arrived & checked into our suite until the New Year’s Eve gala dinner. My husband told our server (Mary) about his Nut Allergy , her response, there’s a vegetarian menu also, we were both taken aback as up until then it was never a problem. I asked if he could have a protein without nuts, her response was NO, everything is already made up. My husband then asked if he could have items from the vegetarian menu as a swap for the items with nuts on the main menu, Mary’s response was again a firm NO, it’s one menu or the other. At this stage we were both looking at each other and deciding whether to get up and leave. She then came back and looked at my husband and said just for you they will do chicken as if it was a big deal and we had put the kitchen out by cooking a different protein. She never asked me what I wanted if I had any allergies or if I was vegetarian. There were breads on the table did she go through them with us , NO, so we didn’t have a clue what they contained again ( NUT ALLERGY) never took a wine order, that was the last time she came near us for some reason. I spotted Sean from the other restaurant they have and called him over to ask about the breads to which he in fairness went through with us. We had to call another waiter to place a drinks order. Then out he came to say that the wine we ordered was unfortunately not available and would we like to reorder, which we did. Then another waiter came to tell us again that the first wine we ordered was not available, we told him we were already told and another waiter arrived with our bottle of wine and to tell us it was the last bottle in the house and if we still wanted it. We said yes and said if we wanted more we would order obviously a different bottle. Out comes the food and one of the fish courses had the number 5 on its list of allergens (peanuts) but no description on the menu. Obviously my husband couldn’t touch it and the restaurant Manager Mate came over to ask him was everything ok. This is where everything changed. After explaining to him that he was not able to eat the food because of the nut allergy Mate took it away and asked my husband would he like something else. Totally fed up at this point he said no thank you. The mains arrived and to both of our surprise we had the same dish except my husbands didn’t have any nuts on it, no chicken to be seen either, Mate came over to check on us and that was the turning point of the night. He apologised for any disruption to our evening and to our surprise we were told we were not going to be charged for our bottle of wine as it was the last one in the house. The rest of the evening went without a hitch. The following night was a totally different experience, from the moment we walked in the hostess greeted us and when we were seated she let us know she knew about the but all
