No paths to the Shepherd’s huts and no gravel around the huts so the mud was horrendous. The front of the hut was just a sea of mud and very slippy, absolute nightmare trying to get the luggage over from the car park. Hut not very clean. Crumbs under toaster, empty biscuit wrapper on floor, lots of dirty marks on walls/ceiling. Muddy foot print on floor. Opened the fridge to put food in and the smell was awful, this was due to a packet of burgers that had been left in the freezer and had gone rotten. Bin dirty and handle on microwave door broken. Very difficult to shut the door, had to really slam it and then very difficult to lock. One of the windows was leaking so could hear dripping all night and left a pool of water on the floor. Only one dining plate and one bowl. Not in a great location, only a couple of minutes’ drive from an open prison that houses sex offenders and next to a very busy road. On the plus side, my husband enjoyed the fishing and the communal toilets and showers were very clean. The owners really need to put a gravel path down to the huts and some gravel around the huts. Definitely not a “retreat” and definitely not “glamorous” accommodation. Spent most of the stay cleaning mud up.
