Filthy hotel. I used to travel to premier inns regularly pre 2020. This is the first time I’ve stayed in one since. I booked it without looking at reviews as premier inns, had in the past, always delivered good, clean basic accommodation. How this has changed, at least at the Musselburgh hotel. Check-in was efficient. No small chat, just handed form to fill in, key to room and directions. Got to room, looked the usual. I picked up the remote to turn the tv on and I seen how disgusting the remote was! I’ve been in a lot of hotels and know the remotes are generally the most unhygienic but never before has it been so visible. That then made me open my eyes more to the room. Looked at the kettle, it was filthy covered in dust. The carpet, all around the perimeter was a layer of thick dust. The black stains on the carpet…..were not stains, they were used fake eyelashes. The carpet had clearly not been hoovered anywhere for a while! Walked into the bathroom, every wall, ceiling, door frame covered in black mould spores. The bed side lamps and lamp on the desk was degraded and rusted. One of the usb sockets at bed was broke. The lining of the curtains contained black mould! The fan, although worked, the highest spin speed button wouldn’t stay down to keep fan on so I had to put a heavy weight on it to keep it on. I then looked at the reviews on trip advisor and was appalled to see how bad they were. However, on reviewing these I opted not to go to reception and ask to change rooms. For one it was already very late as I had checked in late and secondly based on the reviews, at least I could see that my bed was clean…when other rooms I could be taking a risk that they weren’t, hence I stayed. The state of this was shocking, particularly as black mould can kill! Health and safety should be involved.
