For many years I've been using Newton House Hotel near Ashbourne as a location for our walking holidays. The hotel is perfectly located for walkers wanting to explore the White Peak area of the Derbyshire Peak District. Dovedale is easily reachable, and there are numerous small villages close by. Newton House provides all that is needed by walkers and travellers, be it comfortable beds, polite and professional staff, and in our case, hearty breakfast and filling evening meals after a day on the trail. Our latest visit was a group of 12 who all had single occupancy, and all appeared to be happy with their room's amenities. Ross, the manager has only recently taken over management of the hotel, but has already stamped his mark by adding improvements like better access to the A515. Currently the hotel are revamping their website, so don't be put off by not being able to view it.

Having booked directly with the hotel and spoken on the phone to Ross, he was very honest, explaining that the hotel was newly refurbished and recently re-opened. He informed us that there weren't many guests on the midweek dates we had booked and the restaurant was not yet serving evening meals. Regardless of this, we confirmed our booking and thank goodness we did. The hotel is beautifully refurbished. Ross was welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious. The staff were really friendly. We went to a local pub for our evening meal and returned to the hotel to enjoy a relaxing drink in the bar at the end of the day. The location is perfect. It has direct access to the Tissington Trail and a few minutes drive to Dovedale and Ilam Park. Great value too.

Lovely hotel. Greeted by friendly host. The room was warm, comfortble and clean. Comfy beds. The breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice. Although they do not offer an evening there are many options nearby. This hotel deserves to be busier as it is really ideal.

Warm, friendly and genuine staff. Stunning location. Beautiful room. We were very well looked after and our pooches were split rotten too! The breakfast was incredible, our room was more than we could have asked for. Fantastic in every way!

Nice clean double room, comfortable bed with plenty of pillows & cushions. Lovely powerful shower, hairdryer & tea & coffee Making facilities. Breakfast was great. Good selection of cereals, croissants, toast. Great selection of speciality teas too. Only fault was occasional smell of sewer when the toilet was flushed. But the fan soon dispersed the smell. The staff are so helpful & friendly too.

We stay here for one night, on jumping into bed, we found a used pair of black socks in the bottom of the bed. I complained straight away the staff reaction was unbelievable, he actually stated, 'I don't know, i inly work here' I refused to sleep in the bed, I was given another room at 11.30pm. The second room no 10, the window hinges were broken, hence a large gap around the window, we were facing the road, no sleep was had that night due to traffic. I complained to the manager the next morning who stated 'I don't know how that happened.' Obviously they don't change the sheets between guests. On a positive note the breakfast was lovely.

We traveled all the way from the Isle of Wight for our little thrill seeking adventure to Alton towers we knew it would be difficult for someone to accommodate us with a 7pm ferry from Ryde then 7:45 getting off the ferry which it was a 4 hour drive from the ferry terminal making us arrive at midnight, newton house privately messaged me saying this is no problem we can arrange for self check in which me and my misses felt was great and we very much appreciated it We arrived to find ourselves booked in which looked like a horse stable so we were unsure at first but when opening the door it was beautiful inside your own private apartment it was kind of like a tardis as my better half said We were booked in for breakfast which was in the main building we were welcomed from the very pleasant staff at reception which told us breakfast was in the room next door walking in I was amazed that so much was on offer we both were I had my hopes set on a full English which I had misses had her continental items and picked at my tomatoes and had my mushrooms we want to make a special mention to the lady in the restaurant who was so lovely and hard working thankyou for making us so welcome and hats off to you for working so hard as I know exactly how you feel being a team leader in FnB at warner hotels myself Breakfast was amazing by the way! Location is so peaceful and quiet downside was the cow manure is very strong but you can’t help the cute moo moos hahaha Thankyou very much newton house hotel
