For a little over 800 yuan, I stayed in a Syrian-style guesthouse in Wuwei. The location was right next to the Grand Mosque; kudos to the receptionist! I've stayed in quite a few protected courtyard houses, so it's hard to give a proper evaluation.

A fantastic hotel, inexpensive and with spacious rooms. The courtyard-style layout fulfilled my dream of staying in a traditional courtyard house. The only downsides were the projector wasn't great, the headboard panel was a bit limited, and the USB ports weren't working properly—perhaps it was a problem with my room. The breakfast was amazing; we couldn't possibly finish it all, the owner bought a lot! There's also a laundry and drying area, which is very convenient. It's also conveniently located near a temple!

Listening to the light rain outside the window and the sunflowers in the courtyard being pattered by the rain was incredibly relaxing! The reception area is a separate little courtyard; you need to call to check in, as the navigation isn't accurate. It's actually located in a stone alley right next to the parking lot. I've rarely stayed at such a satisfying guesthouse. The courtyard is beautiful, right next to Luoshi Temple, with convenient dining options nearby, yet it's not noisy at all. Taking a stroll is very relaxing, or you can sit in the courtyard early in the morning and watch the birds fly by. Zhangye's attractions are relatively concentrated, and you can walk to them all from the courtyard. We booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children, which was larger than expected, and the interior decoration and amenities were understated yet high-end.
