Hakuunro Ryokan
3.8/54 Reviews
It's close to Yudanaka Onsen Station, so I didn't mind checking in with my luggage. It was easy. I like the appearance of the Showa era. Pets are allowed, so even those who love animals will love it. I wonder if the amount of food is too much. I couldn't finish it. I think I could have finished my meal if I didn't eat between meals before dinner. It's an old inn, so I can't say that the rooms and hot springs are clean. I think that the price is suitable for that area.
Hotel Housei
4.2/549 Reviews
We travelled as a group of three families (5,5,4) and enjoyed our stay at Hotel Housei very much. While my family are frequent travellers to Japan, it was the first time for the other two families and they were keen to try Japanese accommodation - tatami, futons, and onsens. We were able to book three tatami rooms all with private onsen and they were fantastic - especially as the majority of our travelling group were a little shy to go nude in the public bath 😬 The futons were comfortable, the rooms were cosy and warm, and we enjoyed the complimentary tea and traditional sweets, and the yukatas to wear. The instructions for using the private bath were very clear and the bath itself was lovely to soak in and enjoy. The staff were very friendly and could communicate well in English. They made excellent restaurant suggestions for our group of 14, and also assisted with sightseeing and snowboarding suggestions in the area (less snow this year so usual spots not open). They always welcomed us warmly when we returned each day from our adventures and we enjoyed their personal touch. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the snow monkeys, local ski field and the train station, but we had hired cars so did not need to use it. They had a valet parking service which was very handy! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this hotel and will stay again!
Okushiga Kogen Hotel
4.1/514 Reviews
We came as a family with our three children aged 7, 5 and 2, and we had a great week at Okushiga Kogen Hotel at the end of February 2023. Here are some comments that will help future travelers. We were in the Deluxe Triple room, which was perfect for our family because we had installed a cot loaned by the hotel near the bathroom, which is separated from the rest of the room by a very practical door. The room is large and very pleasant with a nice view of the mountains. We were delighted by the quality of the restaurants (we had opted for the half-board option with breakfast and dinner). The breakfast is perfect with a choice for all tastes (there are even good French pastries and fresh orange juice). The restaurants in the evening are very varied (French, Japanese, French raclette and tepanyaki), and the menus change every evening, so even if you go to the same restaurant in the same week, the menu will be different. At lunchtime, the hotel restaurant is top notch (western or Japanese menu), and there are also options on the slopes. Seeing the photos on social networks, I had doubts about the quality of the restaurants, but I was wrong, it was really VERY good. The hotel bar is also top notch, whether it's the day for a tea, or in the evening for a drink around the fireplace accompanied by a live pianist. We also used the daycare service for our 2-year-old daughter, which was a great help for us to be able to ski during the day. The girls who take care of the children are super nice, sweet and professional. The children are kept in a large room with various games. It's not a club med daycare, but our daughter had a great time there. For older children, there is the international ski club with ski instructors of all nationalities who speak English. The school is right next to the hotel (5 minutes max on foot or on skis), I will put another detailed comment on the ski school page, but we LOVED IT!!! There is nothing to do around the hotel, but you can easily take shuttles to nearby villages. From our side, it did not bother us, because after a day of skiing, it suited us very well to go sledding and enjoy the calm of the hotel. The station is top, it is part of a large ski area (the largest in Japan or Nagano if I'm not mistaken). There is almost never anyone on the slopes, it's a real pleasure. For good skiers, you can also take the opportunity to go off-piste in the Japanese powder. To conclude, we really loved our stay and we highly recommend this hotel for travelers looking for the calm and authenticity of a ski trip to Japan. Thanks also to the staff who were
Sunshine Shiga

There is a steep slope in front of the hotel, and you may need a four-wheel drive vehicle when it snows. Facilities are old but clean. The room has space for skis and backpacks. There was a bouquet on the bathroom door and a frame of pressed flowers on the wall. I appreciate your attention to detail. I am also happy that Wi-Fi can be used in the room. The natural hot spring ♨️ open-air bath has a splendid Yunohana. I thoroughly enjoyed the hot spring. The proprietress applied the place where it is not applicable to national travel support. What a 40% discount! I was very happy.

Very friendly family hotel
Raki Onsenryokan
4.4/59 Reviews
What a lovely spot! 2 minutes walk from the train station, we stayed in a traditional Japanese room which was great fun. The room was huge, 2 comfortable futons, low table with floor seats, kettle in the room (bring your own tea or coffee) and a good shower. The owners were extremely helpful despite the language barrier (Google translate was successfully used). They advised us on onward train timetables, gave us a ride to the Snow Monkeys Park saving us having to wait for the bus, picked us up again, gave my husband and I a private onsen session and delivered a huge cooked Chinese breakfast to our room in the morning. When we left they gave us an ornamental chopsticks set as a gift. Can highly recommend this ryokan.
