12/04/25 - Stopped with my son on a bike ride and both had the fish and chips. Hands down some of the best fish and chips I've ever had, the batter was crispy, the fish was super fresh and tasty and the chips, side salad, and peas were awesome too. Cannot fault it. Will be back soon.

Went to the Halfway house for Sunday dinner today and it was gorgeous! Everyone on the table commented about how stunning the food was and all said we would return. The staff were really friendly, helpful and nothing was too much to ask. The pub itself had a lovely warm atmosphere too. I’d definitely recommend a visit!

I visited the half way last weekend for a meal. I had the chicken curry and it was delicious. It came with loads of extras including a Bhaji. I had a glass of Prosecco which was also delicious and a pot of tea to finish. The place is really lovely inside - very traditional and has lots of pretty fairy lights. I’ll be coming back!

Very disappointing. Service was very poor and staff inexperienced and unwelcoming. Preordered food and paid deposit. Tables were not ready on arrival. Had booked table of 9 online. We were put on two tables at bottom of the pub which was very cold situated right by the fire door. Eventually sat at tables. No one came to see us for half an hour. We were then told we had to wait until table of 28 were served their food. Would be another 20 mins as they only had one chef. Food eventually served but not together so some of us had almost finished whilst others starting. No one checked if food was ok. Chips were not triple cooked as advertised. They seemed frozen. Pretty average for the price of the meals. Nothing special at all and will not be returning sadly. Told two drinks would be taken off the bill. They weren’t. I had to ask for this. Really looking forward to this as we were celebrating my son’s birthday. Put a dampener on the evening. Expected much better service 😞

Underwhelming. Very unfortunate given the community’s excitement of its reopening under new and locally-known management. In short the staff are very inattentive and inexperienced. I had to reiterate my order several times and thereafter call on them to bring me what they’d forgot to serve me. In regard to the food, it’s very average at best considering the quality of the produce at Chris Hayman’s Butchers, which ultimately brought me to this restaurant. I won’t be fine dining with Clive anytime soon because basic pub food just isn’t that great.

Visited with 3 other couples. All of us were very disappointed. The service was very poor. To many young staff no one seemed to be in charge. The Bar area was covered in glasses while staff stood around chatting. The food ..... Very small portions . Every one of us said the same thing. Not at all what we expected. The young clientele got quite rowdy towards the end of the evening but nothing was said by the staff. Was really looking forward to our visit but left vowing not to return.Coukd do a lot better and we won't be back

We was recommended to go to the halfway. I was very disappointed. Not able to ring them was the start of it. I had to go to the pub and book. When I got there I explained I was trying to ring them. The bar staff said there was something wrong with the line. I asked could I book now I’m at the venue he replied no you got to go on their website and book. Eventually booked and a £40 deposit paid which was asked. I was disappointed with the menu. Not everyone likes steaks or burgers or pasta. There was a pie it was turkey & cranberry and a curry. We all had fish & chips which was to say ok. Nothing special. The waitresses didn’t no which table was being served. They kept coming saying have you ordered or did you book the table or walk ins. Very unorganised. Then they overcharged us with another tables bill. They came back with our bill an slightly overcharged us with a drink. Then she said you paid deposit so she had to get another bill, OMG won’t be going again.

Just returned from the halfway house today and was disappointed with the service. I was also disappointed with the food as I had heard good things and was looking forward to try new items from the new menu. Ordered 1x chicken burger with cheese and 1 beef burger with cheese. Chicken burger was overcooked/dry and without the cheese that was ordered. Beef burger was also overcooked and dry. Staff did not attend back to the table to check if everything was okay with the food or wasn't asked by staff at the end when paying the bill. When reviewing the bill I could see that I was charged for the cheese that never came with the chicken burger but also for bacon which I never requested. When I informed the staff, I received no apology for the errors made on the bill, I was very friendly about the situation as I'm aware mistakes are made but the customer service towards the end made me feel that I would not like to return nor recommend anyone to eat at the halfway house. Positives were that the chips were good! Unfortunately on this occasion, this has not been a pleasant experience.

The starters - Garlic with Prawns and Ciabatta turned out to be 2 pieces of plain dry toast, some overcooked rubbery prawns that should have been cleaned, and a hint of garlic with pea shoots thrown in. The Steaks were overcooked. The Triple Cooked Chips were normal thin chips, the fish was straight out of the freezer with the smallest portion of mushy peas ever to have crossed my plate. The garlic creamy mushrooms were anything but that. Friendly staff let down by the food. Pricey for what it was. The menu is also odd - mostly with chips. I got the feeling most of the food was assembled rather than cooked.
