The room design is poorly thought out. It was a maze trying to find my room, and it would be a nightmare with a lot of luggage! Then, you have to navigate narrow stairs, and even inside the room, there are more cramped stairs! The sloped ceiling in the bathroom means you constantly hit your head when reaching for tissue, which is also installed in an inconvenient spot! The towel warmer was broken too. Cleanliness was mediocre; my slipper soles were dirty after just a few steps. I won't be returning! The breakfast was terrible with hardly anything to eat!

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend it. The location is okay, just outside the city walls. However, all the rooms are in the attic, requiring two flights of very narrow stairs, making it impossible to bring up even a slightly larger suitcase. The floors are uneven, and in some areas, it feels like they could easily collapse; even with a carpet, they still creak when you walk on them. What's even more frustrating is that the attic is already stuffy, and a constant instant noodle smell drifts up from the downstairs restaurant. On the night we checked in, we found one of the air conditioners wasn't working, but the front desk said the maintenance staff had already left for the day and could only provide us with a small electric fan.

Really easy location to the centre of town. No fridge in the room and the room was quite warm. Very narrow and steep staircase up to the room. Onsite parking at an extra cost. Buffet breakfast was good however staff were unsure of vegan or gluten free options. Nice little hotel.

The hotel's location is excellent, very close to Shambles and York Minster, right by the ancient city walls. The room was quite spacious and clean, offering great value for money in the UK.

Avoid this place! The location is great, right next to the attractions. However, the stay was terrible. It's a converted residential building, and our room faced the street, so it was very noisy even with the windows closed. The floors are wooden, so the soundproofing is awful; it sounded like someone was walking in our room every time other guests moved from the first floor to their rooms. Plus, a spider crawled out of the bathtub drain while I was showering...

The hotel is right by the city walls, and some rooms even offer views of them. The room was a bit small but very clean and tidy, and it even had a bathtub – perfect for a relaxing soak after exploring the old town. It's only a ten-minute walk to York Minster and The Shambles, and it's wonderfully peaceful to visit them in the mornings and evenings before the crowds arrive. The English breakfast was decent, and you can enjoy views of the old town from the dining area on the first floor.

Lovely hotel and all staff were more than accommodating. However the room did have a very strange mark on the carpet in our room and there seemed to be a hole in the floor within the stain. Very strange but overall would stay again!

It was a really nice trip and we really enjoyed our evening - 1st times in York and would definitely come again

Nice cosy room outside of the main hotel. Only window was a skylight that you could open, but it didn't give a lot of natural light. Bed was comfortable and shower good. Excellent amenities within the room including tea/coffee, ironing facilities and TV. Perfect location for exploring the city and the bonus of free parking. The continental breakfast was a little sparse and if you're a vegan, you may want to let the hotel know ahead of arrival. Despite the odd area for improvement, still very good value.

The location is pretty good, very close to the city walls and York Minster. However, the facilities seem a bit subpar. During the summer, the western sun makes the room very hot, and the air conditioning is practically ineffective. The shower space in the room is tiny; you can't even bend over to wash your toes... Overall, it's far from what I'd expect from the Hilton brand.

I've never stayed at a DoubleTree by Hilton this bad. The floors creak with every step, the toilet doesn't flush properly, and the shower pressure is incredibly weak.

The hotel is quite old and small. There's no elevator, so with luggage, you have to climb very narrow stairs. The room has no air conditioning, making it very hot in the summer. The toilet is also difficult to use; you have to press down with a lot of force. We booked a family room, and the extra bed was terrible – my child would sink into it while sleeping. For over 2,000, it's definitely not worth the price. The staff, however, were quite nice.

Location is good. Carparking is outrageously expensive at 25 quid. Good that we have a fan and aircon in our room as it was very hot recently. Overall the room was expensive comparatively.
