Too many stairs up to the rooms Rooms painted black and small Extremely noisy from next door club till early hours so no sleep. They provided ear plugs which should have been a prompt to what to expect Great location Great bathroom Separate communal kitchen for tea and coffee Overall we would not use this hotel again, and would not promote it due to the noise

We were almost put off by reviews focusing on the noise, but are glad we ignored them. (You have to expect late night noise in a City centre environment. However we were undisturbed.) Place is quirky and well kitted out. Unfortunately we had to leave early and, in our rush to pack, my husband left his wedding ring in the side table. A quick phone call from the train and this morning said ring appeared in the post! Hopefully we can visit again sometime. We are so grateful and impressed!

Very good location, small but functional room- although a mirror in bedroom would be advantageous for us ladies please! Room very warm but window that opens helps. Only downside many many stairs, was fine at beginning of the day but once we had walked all day they were killers on return, although the murals painted on the walls are amazing. Overall very clean, NOT quiet but fabulous location for seeing everything - we would use again

Awful. The earplugs on the bedside table were a red flag. So noisy, doors can only be closed by slamming shut. Inconsiderate guests shouting in corridors, playing music excessively loudly. Could hear people's conversations in the room across the hall. Nobody on site to deal with this. You could contact management at Kennedy's Bar but only Wed through Sun. I would have left and found alternative if the disruption did not start until midnight. Is situated between 2 bars, thankfully not open on the night we stayed (Mon), but can only imagine how much worse this experience would have been.

Very well decorated room, one may even say aesthetically pleasing, very well located being central, slight noise from a nearby bar, but that’s expected for a city centre. Very clean, amazing staff. Would definitely recommend and in fact already have (even though we are still here). The no contact check in/check out/ whole stay adds to it. We only had contact with the staff to extend our stay, she was extremely friendly and made the process very quick and easy, whatever she’s getting payed, isn’t enough! Loved it so much we extended our stay!

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at The Fort. The first thing I noticed was how clean it was. As someone who is terrified of spiders I was a little concerned about the high ceilings and beams, but there was no need to be, the place was immaculate. The livingroom was very comfortable with a sharp smart TV for downtime entertainment. The kitchen is excellent and had everything one could need besides a freezer, but that didn't go amiss. The bed was comfortable without being too soft. The bathrooms were small but there was plenty of room for my (ample) self. All in all this was a great place to stay and we will be booking again if we come back to York. Two notes: request room 1 of you have mobility issues as this is only 2 flights up, where room 3 is 6 flights. Also, check your email on the morning you arrive for check-in instructions. Enjoy your stay!

I would recommend a stay here for the fabulous central location. The room was clean and check in instructions were very clear. Please be aware there was no reception as such, but if needed you can leave your luggage at the bar next door, and there were emergency contacts listed. We didn't need any of this but good to know. There were a couple of bottles of water in the room and some discount vouchers, all of which were an unexpected bonus. The kitchenette was handy if you wanted to make a drink or heat up a microwave meal. The only downside was the noise from the bar below, however earplugs were provided. We had to keep the windows closed but a large fan was in the room so the heat wasn't a big issue. Excellent value for money for a clean, comfortable room in a great location.

We were hoping for a relaxing weekend in the City of York. We chose to stay here due to its central location and the place looked rather nice. Unfortunately this hotel was the noisiest we have EVER stayed in. We had to experience loud music coming from the bars until 3am, bin men and then in the early hours the pub below had their beer barrels delivered. There was no reference on the website of any potential noise disruption. After speaking to the proprietor about the noise issues I was offered no appolgy or compensation whatsoever. Her attitude was extremely poor sadly. Having travelled extensively over the years both in the UK and Worldwide this hotel has been the worst experience ever and I certainly would not recommend The Fort as a relaxing place to stay, pack your ear plugs !!!

Absolutely would not recommend this place at all if you want no sleep!! we stayed here in the deluxe double room, paying close to £200 for one night which is pretty expensive for a room. the room was lovely and we had no complaints however when it got to 9PM the whole room turned into a night club. there is actually a night club directly underneath the room which meant the whole room was vibrating and bouncing until 3AM including the bed meaning we both had no sleep. there was no mention of this when we booked. when i rang up to say that this was unacceptable they told me to write an email and two weeks later i am still waiting for a response so take from that what you will. honestly avoid at all costs for the money you will get a better nights sleep at the train station.
