travelers, i would not recommend staying here, unless you don’t anticipate needing assistance in any way from the host. We are budget travellers, but even for us it wasn’t up to standard. the plugs in the bathroom didn’t work/would only work if you were holding the plug, & would still short circuit a bit - shock risk. the biggest issue was our run ins with the owner, who tried to be really nice but just ended up making everything harder for us. first was the ticket for tianmen mountain. we bought 2 tickets directly from the owner, claiming they were at discount, but they were the same price you can find on klook or get your guide. one of our tickets worked and the other one didn’t. & we didn’t find out till we were about to take the cable car that is half way up the mountain.
second issue was laundry. they advertise having laundry services, we paid for our laundry to be done, but they kept saying their machine was broken and they were getting a new one. then the day before we leave, we are told she has hand washed them and we can carry the laundry up to the 5th floor to air dry. this was at 5pm and it was pouring rain. again, we have also paid for this service, but are now doing it ourselves. at 9:30pm, the owner knocked on our door telling us to move the laundry inside to a drying tent on the 4th floor. she tried to get my husband to pay more for this, and after he refused and she paid the machine, she expected us to be happy that she paid it for us, when again, we have paid for this service. She tried to knock on our door again at 11pm, but we refused to answer. At 9am the next morning, our clothes were still wet, and we had to pack them in our backpacks and carry them to do laundry at our next location. Again, we paid for a service and she had our clothes for the whole 3 nights we were there. She tried to constantly shove tea and sweets at us because she could tell we were unhappy, when all we actually wanted was our laundry done.
side note - the street this is on. if you’re only going to tianmen mountain, i’d recommend staying somewhere on this street as the cablecar station is right across the road. but if you are going to the national park, i’d recommend staying closer instead. there is nothing else in the area, and the street itself is filled with VERY pushy restaurants and massage parlours who will block your path with their menus to try to get you to come inside. if you do stay here, go for lunch at the restaurant right next to the mixue nearby - very good.
