The Le Méridien Zhongshan was an extremely disappointing experience. The overall design was questionable, and the hygiene was poor. There were obvious coffee stains from the previous guest on the minibar. Although I was given a slightly larger corner room, there was excavator construction directly below, which was very noisy! Even worse, the manager who came to speak with me reeked of cigarette smoke and had a terrible attitude.
To their credit, the hotel did follow up on this customer experience and offered compensation. I appreciate the hotel and the manager I spoke with later for providing complimentary breakfast and a fruit platter. The hotel also offered to settle the room fee privately with a small discount, but I declined, considering I had already checked in and experienced their service. The complimentary breakfast was good, featuring lamb offal soup and rice noodle rolls.
The pool and gym were large, but it was clear they were operated by a third party. The overall experience was not good, and the pool water was a murky gray-green, which was quite alarming. This was arguably the worst Marriott brand experience I've ever had.
