We stayed at the Hotel Purmerend immediately following a two night stay in a 3* Amsterdam hotel situated near Centraal Station and have to say that the Hotel Purmerend was superior in all respects and definitely excellent value for money being literally half the price of the Amsterdam hotel. In terms of particulars, the room size was much larger and was well appointed with a range of toiletries supplied and more than adequate storage space. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was excellent with a choice of meats, cheese, breads as well as hot food and cereals. The half hourly 305 bus to Amsterdam Centraal is just a five minute walk away; the journey time being around 30 minutes at a cost of €6.50. The next time we visit Holland we shall definitely stay at the Hotel Purmerend.

Hotel belt mij zojuist om te vertellen dat mijn overnachting geannuleerd wordt. Er wordt geen compensatie of alternatief aangeboden, mevrouw weet niet wanneer ik mijn geld terugkrijg. Ik moet nu in paniek een nieuw hotel gaan zoeken en fors meer betalen omdat ik zo kort van tevoren boek, maar Van der Valk vindt dat niet hun probleem

De ingang was ontzettend smerig, het restaurant hing vol met spinnewebben en stof en het meubulair is allemaal zwaar versleten. Tuinstoellen bij de kamer onder de vogelpoep, die ik na 4 keer vragen alsnog zelf kon schoonmaken. De deuren van het 'kamerterras' waren ontzettend vies en er lag nog rotzooi van de vorige gasten. Na 3 keer vragen kwam er rond 18.00 pas het 3e bed op onze kamer. De mannen toilet was ontzettend smerig, en als ik zag hoe het werd schoongemaakt kan ik me daar wat bij voorstellen. Omdat het restaurant vol zat moesten we maar op de kamer wachtten tot er plek was, en als klap op de vuurpijl voerde de dame achter de receptie een discussie over het openstaande bedrag van de 2e kamer die niet was betaald volgens hun die na aantonen van de bankgegeven weldegelijk was betaald. Veel te veel geld voor zo'n hotel. Wij komen in ieder geval niet meer terug.
