Yangzhou Double Gardens One-Day Tour Must-See

Yangzhou Double Gardens One-Day Tour Must-See

“Yangzhou’s Twin Gems” Ge Garden and He Garden: one is a salt merchant’s mansion famous for its four-season rockeries, the other a late Qing official’s residence renowned for its covered corridors. Each has its own unique charm. If time permits, spending a day visiting both gardens is the best way to experience the essence of Yangzhou’s gardens. 🏛️ Double Gardens Profile: Understand the Core Highlights at a Glance · Ge Garden: Salt Merchant Wealth, Four-Season Rockeries: Built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, it was the private garden of salt merchant Huang Zhiyun. Named for the owner’s love of bamboo, its highlight is the four-season rockeries, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing seasons without leaving the garden. · He Garden: Official Elegance, The Top Garden of Late Qing: Built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it was the residence of official He Zhitao after retiring to Yangzhou, acclaimed as the “Top Garden of Late Qing.” It features distinctive architecture blending Chinese and Western styles and houses the “one-of-a-kind” stone studio by master Shi Tao. 🚶 In-Depth Experience: How to Immerse Yourself in the Beauty of the Double Gardens? · Ge Garden: Between Bamboo and Rocks, Understand the Changing Seasons 1. See the “Bamboo”: The character “Ge” is derived from the shape of bamboo leaves. The garden is filled with 20,000 stalks of lush bamboo, offering beautiful bamboo forest scenery perfect for photos. 2. Appreciate the “Four Seasons”: Enter from the north gate and follow the sequence of Spring Mountain (stone bamboo shoots) - Summer Mountain (Taihu stones) - Autumn Mountain (yellow stones) - Winter Mountain (Xuan stones) to fully experience the seasonal changes. 3. Walk through the “Residence”: Visit the southern residential area to feel the daily life details of the salt merchant family. · He Garden: On the Corridors, Experience the Blend of East and West 1. Walk the “Covered Corridors”: The over 1,500-meter-long covered corridor is unique in Chinese gardens and known as the “World’s Number One Corridor.” While strolling, pay attention to the intricately patterned flower windows, called the “World’s Number One Windows.” 2. Admire the “One-of-a-Kind”: Don’t miss the stone studio, where you can find the “Moon in the Water” marvel created by Shi Tao’s rock stacking technique. 3. Discover “East Meets West”: Notice buildings like the Yuxiu Pavilion, featuring Western-style fireplaces and shutters, reflecting the fashion of that era. 📋 Practical Guide: Tickets, Routes, and Surroundings Here is a summary of practical information for the Double Gardens: · Ticket Prices: Both Ge Garden and He Garden charge 45 RMB in peak season and 30 RMB in off-season. You can also buy a combined ticket for both gardens online (about 80 RMB), which is more cost-effective than buying separately. · Opening Hours: Usually 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM (closing earlier in off-season). It’s recommended to check real-time info before your visit. · Classic Route: Morning at Ge Garden → Lunch → Afternoon at He Garden. The south gate of Ge Garden leads directly to Dongguan Street, perfect for lunch after your visit; He Garden is about 2 kilometers from there. · Transportation Tips: Ge Garden is located at No. 10 Yanfu East Road, He Garden at No. 66 Xuningmen Street. Public transport or taxis are recommended. · Nearby Extensions: Ge Garden is adjacent to the historic Dongguan Street district, while He Garden is near Pishi Street, both great places to enjoy Huaiyang cuisine and experience Yangzhou’s local culture. 💡 Visiting Tips · Best Time: Early morning at opening time when there are fewer visitors for the best experience. · Dress Suggestion: Wearing traditional Chinese clothing or Hanfu makes for stunning photos amid the garden scenery. · Guided Services: You can rent a 20 RMB audio guide at the entrance or follow a tour guide to learn more about the stories behind the gardens. · Special Experience: If time allows, consider the night tour at Ge Garden to enjoy garden lighting and folk music performances, experiencing the unique charm of the evening. 💎 Summary Ge Garden’s brilliance lies in the art of “rock stacking,” while He Garden’s charm is in its “architectural ingenuity.” If you have to choose, my advice is: · If you are more interested in nature, stones, and the seasonal atmosphere, choose Ge Garden. · If you prefer architecture, history, and spatial design, choose He Garden.

Yangzhou One-Day Tour Guide, Live Experience! Slender West Lake/Geyuan Garden/Grand Canal

Yangzhou One-Day Tour Guide, Live Experience! Slender West Lake/Geyuan Garden/Grand Canal

Before the lunar March arrives, Yangzhou is already filled with the colors of spring. Magnolias, plum blossoms, peach blossoms, pear blossoms, they cover the trees and the city, and you can never take enough photos. The willow trees are freshly green, at their most beautiful moment. Photos taken on: March 19th One-day highlights: Grand Canal Museum - Dongguan Street/Geyuan Garden - Slender West Lake - Grand Canal Night Cruise 🎈Arrive at the Grand Canal Museum before 9 am, the museum opens at 9. It's quite large, with majestic architecture, and mainly three exhibition halls inside, which are history, boats, and an antique market street. It's very crowded, so you must book in advance (free of charge). Be sure to go early, we left at 10:20 and it was already very, very crowded. It takes about 1-2 hours to walk around and take pictures. 🎈After leaving the museum, take a taxi to Dongguan Street. This street is so-so, full of small shops. Have some snacks here and head straight to Geyuan Garden (located on Dongguan Street) 🎈Geyuan Garden: The ticket is 48 yuan. Inside, the bamboo forest and garden are beautiful, with a stunning magnolia tree. About 1 hour should suffice here. 🎈Slender West Lake: The daytime ticket is 100 yuan. Walk from Geyuan Garden to the south gate of Slender West Lake. The lake is extremely beautiful at this time, stay as long as you wish to enjoy the scenery. We entered from the south gate, walked north to the lake's plum grove, and exited from the west gate. It took about 2.5 hours, and there was still a large area we didn't get to, too tired to walk. 🎈Night Cruise on the Grand Canal: After exiting the west gate, go back to the hotel for a rest (Fairfield by Marriott, right across from the west gate). Then take a taxi to Dongguan Ancient Ferry. There are many food options here, have dinner, and then you can take a boat for a night cruise. We don't like boat rides, so we just walked along the riverbanks, enjoying the night view, which was also very nice. Photos: 2-10 Slender West Lake. 11-14 Geyuan Garden. 15-18 Grand Canal Museum

Yangzhou Yechun - Caiyi Street - Dongguan Street - Ge Garden - Grand Canal Museum Day Tour

Yangzhou Yechun - Caiyi Street - Dongguan Street - Ge Garden - Grand Canal Museum Day Tour

Got up early and went to Yechun Teahouse without having to wait in line. This is a great place to enjoy Yangzhou morning tea while admiring the classical architecture and waterfront scenery. Then, head to Caiyi Street. This is a small alley full of Jiangnan style. You can walk to a bridge to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the old street and the small river. There are also many snacks and Hanfu experience shops here. Walk along Caiyi Street to Dongguan Street. You can taste various Yangzhou snacks, such as Yangda yogurt, or visit the shops to experience the local life of Yangzhou. Ge Garden is located on Dongguan Street and is famous for its rockery art. The rockeries of the four seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter, are made of bamboo stones, lake stones, yellow stones, and Xuan stones, and are very exquisite and unique. For lunch, I had authentic Yangzhou fried rice, Yangzhou dried bean curd, crab roe soup dumplings, and other local delicacies. In the afternoon, I went to the Grand Canal Museum. The Grand Canal Museum integrates cultural relic protection, scientific research, exhibition, and leisure experience, and you can learn about the history and culture of the Grand Canal. The museum uses modern technology to showcase the history and culture of the canal, especially the 5D naked-eye effect in Hall 1 and the boarding experience in Hall 2, which make you feel like you are traveling through time and space to experience the thousand-year changes of the canal. It should be noted that you need to make a reservation in advance to ensure a smooth entry into the Grand Canal Museum. In the evening, I had Huaiyang cuisine at Yulinglong Restaurant. Línxún Painting the Four Seasons, Exquisite Bamboo Theme Garden - A Fun Tour of Yangzhou's Geyuan

Línxún Painting the Four Seasons, Exquisite Bamboo Theme Garden - A Fun Tour of Yangzhou's Geyuan

Geyuan, a private residence of a salt merchant in Yangzhou, remains well-preserved despite its age. The garden is named "Ge" (个) Garden because it houses a large variety of bamboo, and the character "Ge" is formed by three bamboo leaves at the top. 📍 Address: No. 10 Yanfu East Road, Guangling District, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province 🕙 Opening Hours: 7:15 am - 6:00 pm (peak season); 7:15 am - 5:30 pm (off-season) 💰 Ticket Price: Adult ticket/CNY 48; Half-price ticket/CNY 24 🗺️ Recommended Route: North Gate - Wan Bamboo Garden - Bamboo West Scenic Spot - Congshu Building - Southern Residential Area East Axis - Central Axis - West Fire Lane - West Axis - Four Seasons Rockeries Spring Hill - Yiyu Pavilion - Summer Hill - Baoshan Building - Autumn Hill - Winter Hill 🌟 Highlights: The most interesting feature of the garden is the rockery landscapes depicting the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. 🌸 Spring: Spring Hill is ideal for strolling. The Spring Hill, made of Taihu stones, features the twelve zodiac animals (in shape). Bamboo is planted among the stones, and stone shoots are also piled up, symbolizing the rapid growth of bamboo shoots after rain. The Spring Hill faces the Yiyu Pavilion, a place for banquets, creating a delightful spring scene. 🪷 Summer: The Summer Hill, located to the left rear of Yiyu Pavilion, is a sight to behold. It is also made of Taihu stones and features a lotus pond at the foot of the hill and a crane pavilion on top. Taihu stones are known for being "thin, wrinkled, leaky, and transparent." The fishbone stone in the pond, a treasure of the garden, resembles the character "moon" (月) standing in the pond. Stones resembling frogs are placed by the pond, creating a scene of moonlight over a lotus pond with the sound of frogs croaking. The plaque of the Crane Pavilion on the hilltop is read from left to right to incorporate the pine and cypress trees to the left of the pavilion, forming "Pine Crane Pavilion." 🍁 Autumn: The Autumn Hill, the largest of the four seasonal hills, is connected to the Summer Hill on the left by the Baoshan Building. It is ideal for climbing and is made of Huangshan rockery, rugged and meandering. The hill features stone windows, stone benches, stone tables, skylights, stone steps, and stone bridges. The Zhuqiu Pavilion at the summit is the highest point in the garden. ❄ Winter: The Winter Hill, located on the east side of the garden, between the Autumn Hill and the Spring Hill, is closer to the Spring Hill. From the latticed windows of the Winter Hill, one can see the Spring Hill, implying that spring is not far behind even in winter. The Winter Hill is built with Xuan stone, which is crystal white and radiantly round. Winter plum, Nandina domestica, and elm trees are planted on the hill, adding a touch of color to the winter landscape. The south wall of the Winter Hill also features a "wind sound hole," which produces the sound of a howling north wind when the wind blows, creating a chilly atmosphere.

A Visit to Ge Garden in Yangzhou | A Script Murder Mystery Tour in the Night

A Visit to Ge Garden in Yangzhou | A Script Murder Mystery Tour in the Night

The Yangzhou in early spring is clear and bright, making it a perfect time for outings. With a longing for classical gardens, I embarked on a journey to Ge Garden in Yangzhou. Ge Garden, a private garden built during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty 🌲, is world-renowned for its unique bamboo and rock landscapes and its four-season artificial hills. Upon entering Ge Garden, the first thing that catches the eye is the lush bamboo forest, swaying in the wind as if telling ancient tales. Strolling along the winding paths, I felt a sense of peace and harmony, as if I were in a tranquil haven far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world. The artificial hills in Ge Garden are particularly outstanding. Spring hills are for strolling, summer hills for viewing, autumn hills for climbing, and winter hills for dwelling. Each hill ingeniously utilizes different stones and techniques to create a landscape that changes with the seasons. I am especially fond of the autumn hill, with its layers of yellow stones resembling a three-dimensional autumn scroll, captivating and unforgettable. In the evening, Ge Garden becomes even more enchanting. The setting sun's afterglow sprinkles over every corner of the garden, adding a touch of mystery and romance to this ancient garden. At this time, I learned that there was a script murder mystery game in the garden at night, and I eagerly signed up to participate. The script murder game unfolded in an antique hall within Ge Garden. We were divided into different roles, each with our own secrets and missions. As the game progressed, we had to solve puzzles and outwit other players to uncover the truth behind the scenes. Ge Garden at night seemed to transform into a stage full of suspense and excitement. We searched for clues in every corner of the garden, interacted with NPCs, and experienced unprecedented thrills and fun. In the end, after a fierce competition, we successfully solved the puzzle and revealed the truth. My visit to Ge Garden in Yangzhou allowed me to appreciate the charm of classical gardens and experience the excitement and fun of the script murder game. Ge Garden at night has a unique flavor that is unforgettable. I believe that whether it is to appreciate the beauty of the garden or to experience the script murder game, Ge Garden is a place worth visiting time and again.
