The nomadic experience in Gannan is a unique journey to understand and experience the traditional lifestyle and cultural charm of Tibetan herdsmen. In the Gannan grassland, tourists can choose to stay in the homestay or camp with Tibetan characteristics, such as Nordan Camp, Ganga ecological camp, Amigong Hong Ranch homestay, etc. These accommodation sites not only provide comfortable accommodation, but also allow visitors to experience the nomadic lifestyle in greater depth. In the grassland, you can live in wooden houses, tents and other original buildings, enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.

Langmusi, a slice of Tibetan life

Langmusi, a slice of Tibetan life

Halfway between Lanzhou in Gansu province and Chengdu in Sichuan lies Langmusi, a small border town famed for its Tibetan monasteries and surrounding mountains. You can get here by bus from either Lanzhou or Chengdu in about 6 to 8 hours. Although there is really only one main street here, you can still find lots of places to stay such as hotels and hostels. The place is quite popular among Chinese tourists, so you won't have to look far for accommodation. The same goes for food. All along the main street, there are plenty of small restaurants. You won't find a KFC or McDonald's here, but that is a good thing as you can discover the local cuisine. There are several Tibetan restaurants where you can have yak meat or momos, but my favorite is the yak yogurt. You won't be bored in Langmusi. You can easily spend a couple of days here exploring the monasteries and climbing the mountains such as the red rock mountain. A little further away from the town are some other beautiful places such as Zhagana, Zoige grasslands and flower lake. They are all easily accessible on a day trip. For something a little more active contact the Black Tent Cafe. They can take you on horse riding tours, wildlife watching tours or even let you fly in a hot air balloon.

Tibetan villages are scattered across the mountains, and when shrouded in clouds and mist, it looks like a fairyland, a paradise for photographers. - Ganjia Secret Realm: The grasslands beneath the stone mountains are vast and boundless, with wildflowers blooming freely and sheep grazing leisurely. There are also the ruins of the Bajiao Ancient City, with a long history and well-preserved city walls. Standing on the walls, you can almost see the prosperity and vicissitudes of the past. - Labrang Monastery: One of the six major monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, the monastery's architecture is magnificent, and the interior houses giant Buddha statues, exquisite sculptures, and Thangkas. The extra-long prayer wheel corridor is its iconic landscape, where believers devoutly spin the prayer wheels, praying for their families and all beings. - Langmusi: The Bailong River flows through the town, dividing it into two parts, one in Sichuan and the other in Gansu. It blends the cultures of Tibetan, Han, Hui, and other ethnic groups and is known as "Little Switzerland of the East," tranquil and peaceful. - The First Bend of the Yellow River in Maqu: The Yellow River changes its eastward flow here and flows westward, forming a unique landscape. At sunset, the golden afterglow sprinkles on the river, shimmering and breathtakingly beautiful. - Lake Gahai: A shining pearl on the plateau, with clear water and rich wetland ecology around it. Every flower, every blade of grass, every mountain, and every stone here retains its purest natural form, making it a habitat for many rare birds. - Zecha Stone Forest: A silicon-calcium rock forest formed by crustal uplift, with numerous stone peaks in various shapes, some like sharp swords piercing the sky, others like graceful fairies. Clear streams flow through the mountains, creating a charming landscape. Local Cuisine - Hand-Grabbed Mutton: Made with high-quality local Gannan mutton, simmered in clear water to retain the original flavor of the mutton. The meat is tender, fatty but not greasy, and served with pepper salt or garlic sauce, offering a rich flavor and an essential dish on the Gannan dining table. - Tibetan Momo: Made with barley flour or wheat flour, filled with beef, mutton, radish, etc., and steamed until the outer skin is chewy and the filling is fragrant. It is one of the traditional Tibetan foods, with strong ethnic characteristics. - Butter Tea: Made with butter, tea leaves, salt, and other ingredients, it has a rich taste and is nutritious. It can replenish energy and resist the cold of the plateau, an indispensable drink in the daily life of Tibetans. - Yogurt: Gannan yogurt is thick and creamy, with a moderately sweet and sour taste, and a thick layer of milk skin on top. Mix it with sugar or honey, and it melts in your mouth, filled with milky fragrance, a delicious and healthy dessert. Travel Tips - Sun Protection and Warm Clothing: Gannan has strong sunlight and intense ultraviolet radiation, so be sure to bring sun protection such as hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. At the same time, the temperature difference between day and night is large, and even during the May Day holiday, nights can be quite cold, so pack warm clothing such as down jackets and windbreakers. - Transportation: Gannan's attractions are scattered, and public transportation is not very convenient, so it is recommended to choose a chartered car or carpool. This not only allows you to freely arrange your itinerary but also allows you to stop and admire the scenery along the way, experiencing the charm of Gannan more deeply. - Communication and Navigation: In some remote areas, the signal may be unstable or even non-existent. Therefore, download offline maps in advance to ensure smooth navigation even without a signal, avoiding getting lost. - Respect Local Customs: Gannan is a region with diverse ethnic groups and a strong religious atmosphere, so respect local religious beliefs and customs. When entering temples, follow the temple's rules and do not take pictures or make loud noises at will. Pack your bags and embark on a tranquil journey to Gannan! Let your soul be healed in this vast land and leave with beautiful memories.

Last year, I bought a Tibetan outfit for 🌸15 yuan, perfect for taking photos🎥. 3⃣️Beautiful scenery: Snow mountains, the Milky Way, grasslands🌴, highways, cattle and sheep, the Yellow River, and misty secret realms - all the beautiful scenes you can think of are here. 4⃣️Driving is not tiring: Compared to Xinjiang, 🌦 about 3 hours of self-driving each day. 🗓Itinerary: D1: Lanzhou - Gannan Secret Realm - Dazong Lake - Stay in Xiahe D2: Xiahe - Sangke Grassland - Zhagana - Stay in Zhagana D3: Zhagana - Ruoergai Grassland - First Bend of the Yellow River - Stay in Tangke D4: Tangke - Lianbaoyeze - Stay in Jiuzhi D5: Jiuzhi - Ningma Temple - Maqu - Stay in Langmusi D6: Langmusi - Gahai Lake - Lanzhou 🏨Hotel environment: Xiahe: , conveniently located, beautiful surroundings, clean and tidy rooms, attentive service. Zhagana: , where you can enjoy the stunning scenery of Zhagana, rooms are warmly decorated, great value. 📝Attention tips: ▶️Strong UV rays, bring an umbrella, which can protect against both sun and rain. ▶️The food here is spicy, remember to bring medicine for stomachaches, and ask the owner to put less spice when ordering. ▶️❗️Be sure to book the B&B one month in advance❗️ ▶️Carry some cash, in case of poor signal in some places. ✅Must experience: Lanzhou Western Great Wall Film and TV City🌟🌟🌟🌟 Many people only know about Lanzhou noodles, but there's a film and TV city just 5 minutes away from Lanzhou airport, with Egyptian and Greek architecture recreated at 1:1 scale. If you're transferring through Lanzhou, it's recommended to take a look. Langmusi: A Town, Two Provinces, Three Ethnic Groups

Langmusi: A Town, Two Provinces, Three Ethnic Groups

Langmusi, is a temple, but not just a temple, it is also a small town located at the junction of Sichuan and Gansu. A small town, divided into two by the Bailong River, belongs to Gansu and Sichuan provinces; a temple, divided into Gansu Temple and Sichuan Temple; in the middle of the two temples, there is also a mosque; Han, Tibetan, Hui, three ethnic groups live together in this small town. Langmusi has been a sacred place for Tibetan Buddhism in Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai and Tibet to worship the Black Tiger Goddess since ancient times. The history of temple construction here has been thousands of years. The meaning of Langmusi is 'Tiger Cave Fairy Temple'. Langmusi is a Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, divided into two parts, one is Sichuan Dachang Langmusi, also called Gerdi Temple, and the other is Gansu Saichisi, the two temples are across the river, less than a hundred meters apart. The town is very small, everywhere is typical Tibetan architecture, Hada, prayer flags, Tibetan-style painted beams can be seen everywhere. The distant Red Rock Cliff surrounds the town, tall and sharp, under the contrast of the surrounding green grassland, like a red wall guarding this land. It takes about ten minutes to walk to Sichuan Temple. The entrance is very simple, with two lamas in charge of selling tickets. Following the entrance, the low Tibetan-style red houses near the entrance are the monks' rooms. In the afternoon, there are not many monks in the temple, very quiet. The biggest Buddhist event of Gerdi Temple every year is the Buddha Viewing Festival on the 13th day of the first month, the huge Buddha image scroll is slowly unfolded on the Buddha Viewing Platform along the hillside, very magnificent, unfortunately we can't see such a magnificent scene now. The Great Hall of Sutras across from the Buddha Viewing Platform, with red walls and golden roofs, is solemn and magnificent. In front of the hall, the butter lamps are always bright, the Dharma is always present, and the Sanskrit sounds in the hall are quiet and solemn. Across the Bailong River Road is Gansu Temple, where you can step across two provinces. Saichisi is built along the mountain, at this altitude, the slope is still a bit challenging. As soon as you enter the gate, a golden-domed white tower stands tall, this is where people turn the scriptures daily. With the mountain, the grandeur and magnificence of Saichisi are more prominent. Golden dome, white wall, red window, under the sunshine, glittering, layer upon layer, don't know how many layers. Compared to the Sichuan Temple across the river, the temples are all very magnificent and exquisite. Saichisi was founded in 1748, and has a history of more than 250 years. After more than 200 years, with the careful protection and continuous expansion of successive Saichisi Living Buddhas, the Golden Hall, Buddha Hall, Buddha Palace, and monks' houses are well-arranged, large in scale, and Saichisi has also become the Tibetan Buddhist temple in the Duoma Tibetan area, second only to Ta'er Temple and Labrang Temple. From the highest Buddha Hall, you can overlook the panoramic view of Langmusi Town and the Sichuan Temple across the river, as well as the distant Red Rock Cliff and snow-capped mountains, can't help but sigh at the insignificance of human beings, and can't help but sigh at the greatness of human beings.

Guomang Wetland, Nine-colored Gannan

Guomang Wetland, Nine-colored Gannan

Guomang Wetland is located beside National Highway 213 in Gahai Township, Luqu County, Gansu Province, at an altitude of 3562 meters. It is the source and water conservation area of the Tao River, the largest tributary of the Yellow River, and an important wintering habitat for migratory birds such as the black-necked crane. At this moment, Guomang Wetland is a beautiful autumn picture, with white clouds, fluttering prayer flags, and the interplay of grasslands, rivers, and lakes, also reflecting the beauty of the Nine Bends of the Yellow River. The iconic building of Guomang Wetland is the red-crowned crane statue, located in the middle of the red-crowned crane viewing platform, which can be reached by a wooden plank road about one kilometer long. Admission is free and it is open all day. It is recommended to drive there, located beside National Highway 213.

The best time to travel to Gannan is from June to August. During this period, the average temperature in Gannan is 10-20°C, the warmest time of the year. The green grass, wildflowers, lush pastures, and vibrant colors make it the best time to appreciate the plateau scenery. It is a time not to be missed. Gannan is located on the plateau, with significant temperature differences between day and night. Even in the warmest months of July and August, you need to wear fleece jackets, light sweaters, or coats in the morning and evening, while long and short-sleeved T-shirts are suitable for noon. The plateau's strong ultraviolet rays make sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, and umbrellas essential.
