Kappo Shirako is located a few minutes walk from Yugawara Station. It is also listed in the Michelin Guide, and is popular as a restaurant where you can enjoy the taste of carefully selected ingredients with seasonal flavors. The restaurant has a counter and four table seats. The counter was messily placed with ingredients, and it didn't seem to be used for seating. (It made me doubt whether it was really a Michelin-listed restaurant.) Since it is a popular restaurant, you need to make a reservation by phone in advance. XIV Yugawara Rikyu is a members-only hotel that opened in 2017. In our spacious room, we started off by toasting with the complimentary sparkling wine in the fridge. The hotel's selling point is its four open-air hot spring baths that make use of four different springs. You can enjoy a variety of baths in the large public bath, but you can also enjoy a hot spring bath in your room, which was better than we expected, so we spent most of our time in our room. A nice touch was that the large public bath also had a sauna in the women's bath. For breakfast, we chose a Japanese restaurant. It was neither good nor bad, but we could tell they had put in a lot of effort. As it's still a newer hotel, it was clean overall, but we were also pleased that the restrooms on the restaurant floor were clean. I had a great experience on the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise. The views of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji were breathtaking, and the cruise itself was very relaxing. The ship was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were polite and helpful. I enjoyed the option to sit inside or outside, depending on the weather. The only downside was that the commentary on board was limited, so it would have been nice to have more information about the sights we were passing. Overall, it’s a wonderful way to experience the beauty of Hakone, especially on a clear day. Would definitely recommend this cruise for anyone visiting Hakone!
