#Places to go with kids 📍Shanghai Valley I visited Shanghai Valley located in Cheorwon! Search for Shanghai Valley on your navigation and go! There are many fun points to play in the valley on the way up when you almost get there! Since you can park on the road next to it, there was no problem with parking and I had a great time! Another good thing is that you can cook!!! Of course, take your trash with you! There were also many bathrooms along the way, which was nice!

There are currently two paths to enjoy Hantangang Geopark, namely, the Jando Trail and the Mulwit Trail. The Mulwit Trail is a course where you walk over the Hantangang River in the winter and can only be used in the winter. The Jando Trail that I walked this time was newly opened at the end of last year and is a path built on a cliff. Sometimes, you can pass over a suspension bridge. Jando Trail seems to be a great course to properly see the Hantangang columnar joints. It is about 3.6 km and takes about an hour and a half, and there are some uphill and downhill stairs, so I thought it might be a bit difficult for the elderly or young children. I arrived at Hantangang River around 10 am, but there were already many people walking, so I thought this place is currently the most popular tourist destination in Korea. 📍 Average price per person: 10,000KRW The entrance fee is 10,000KRW, but 5,000KRW is given as change in local gift certificates.

One winter, I visited the Hantangang Jando-gil while going to the hot springs at Hantangang with my friends. The Hantangang River is a river with more diverse and beautiful scenery than any other river in Korea, with vertical cliffs and valleys forming here and there. Among them, the most famous is the Seungilgyo (昇日橋), an arch bridge jointly built by the South and the North, which was constructed under Kim Il-sung right after liberation and completed under Syngman Rhee right after the armistice, and which is a product of the tragedy of the division of the South and the North. The most recently opened #Columnar Joint Road (completed on October 19th last year) is a 3.6km section along the Hantangang Valley, which is registered as a Nesco World Geopark. This unique hiking trail, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020, offers an incredibly scenic and manageable experience perfect for families or beginner hikers. The trail spans 3.6 km along the Hantangang River, allowing you to marvel at unique volcanic basalt columnar joint formations. It's designed for leisurely exploration, with plenty of rest areas and observation decks along the way. My group, including a 65-year-old and a 4.5-year-old, completed the entire route in just 1.5 hours, and no one complained about being tired! After finishing, we simply hopped on a free shuttle bus back to our starting point at the parking lot. #summervacay Spent a super relaxing day at Bokjusan Recreational Forest in Cheorwon and it was so worth the trip. The vibe here is all about calm nature, cozy forest paths, and just getting away from the noise. The trails aren’t tough at all, perfect for just wandering, taking deep breaths, and enjoying the green everywhere. There’s this really cool mix of pine and birch trees, and the air smelled amazing the whole time. The hike up to Bokjusan’s summit was pretty smooth, and the view at the top? Peaceful mountain layers stretching into the distance, with barely a sound around. Honestly felt like I hit the reset button. There are also little resting spots, wooden decks, and even cabins if you wanna stay overnight. Great for families, solo hikers, or anyone who just needs some quiet forest therapy. Bring snacks, maybe a book, and just soak it all in. Bokjusan isn’t flashy, but that’s kinda what makes it perfect. Total hidden gem in Gangwon-do!

#summervacay Took a super chill hike up Myeongseongsan and wow, it totally surprised me. The trail isn’t too wild, nice and gradual most of the way, with lots of open space and those tall flame grass fields that make everything feel kinda dreamy. Perfect for when you want some nature time without getting totally wrecked. As you climb up, the views just keep getting better. Mountains rolling in the distance, the sky wide open, and the wind playing through the grass. It’s peaceful, open, and totally worth a few sweat drops. At the top, it’s all big sky and freedom vibes, felt like standing on top of the world, but without the crazy climb. I brought some gimbap and just hung out for a while, watching the clouds roll by. Not too crowded either, which was a bonus. Myeongseongsan might not be the most famous mountain in Gangwon-do, but it seriously delivers. Highly recommend if you're into calm hikes, epic views, and big nature energy!

#summervacay If you're into wide open views, cozy hills, and fluffy flame grass swaying in the breeze, Myeongseongsan is calling your name! I hit the trail kind of late in the day, but honestly, it turned out perfect. The hike wasn’t super intense, just enough to make you feel like you earned your lunch. Once you hit the flame grass cluster near the top, it's like nature turned on soft-focus mode. The golden-pink grass lit up in the sun and waved around like it was dancing. So pretty! The summit gives you awesome panoramic views of Gangwon-do’s mountain layers, and the wind up there? Super refreshing. Great place to chill, snap pics, or just lie down and zone out. Not too many people either, which made it feel even more peaceful. Tip: bring a windbreaker, it gets breezy up there. And don’t forget snacks! Solid half-day trip if you want that “wow” scenery without dying on a steep climb. Definitely one for the summer season bucket list!
