Located to the south of Tian'anmen, Zhongshan Park is just over the wall from the Imperial Palace. This is a commemorative and classic altar garden. The Shejitan, which was built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, briefly held Sun Yat-sen's body for a period after his death. The park was hereby renamed Zhongshan Park in his honor.
