#slowtraveling Black Lake (Crno jezero) is Durmitor’s postcard—two linked basins at 1,416 m, fed by underground springs, rimmed by pine and moss. I took the Podgorica–Žabljak bus (3 hrs, 12 EUR, card via Gluki autobus app), walked 3 km from Žabljak center to the lake (free path), paid the park entry 3 EUR (card at the lake kiosk, June–Oct only). The Mossy Tara Canyon walk is not at the lake—it’s 12 km north: hitch or drive to Đurđevića Tara bridge, then descend the Ljutica river trail to the canyon floor (1.5 hrs down, 2 hrs up, free, no permit). The moss is Hypnumon the canyon walls, dripping, the Tara runs emerald below. I wore trail shoes, slid on the switchbacks—poles mandatory. Mistake: I carried 1 L water, ran out; the Ljutica spring is drinkable but unmarked—ask the bridge guard. A Montenegrin hiker at the bridge shared rakija and said “the Tara cuts the canyon, the moss softens the cut, the black lake remembers both.” Slow tip: sleep at Etno Village Nevidio (40 EUR/night, card), wake 5:30, walk to Black Lake for the 6 am mist, then taxi to Tara for the canyon descent. Should a canyon be walked from the rim, or only understood from its mossy floor?
