Angkor and #angkorwat Water Water was the source of Angkorian construction. Angkorian kings used barays as a mechanism for collecting water. The word baray is not the same as digging a pond. The baray is the raising of a dam around it to store water. To this day, both the baray and the water still support Angkor.

Angkor dominated the Indochina Peninsula in the 12th century, annexing Siam and Laos, defeating Champa. Its glory declined in the 13th century and the capital fell in 1431, with the temples destroyed. Its rise was rapid, and its fall was sudden!
