What moved me most was the sudden vast view of the Mediterranean behind the cacti. The garden is built on the ruins of a medieval castle. The castle was destroyed in 1706. After World War II, the local mayor André Gianton and horticulturist Jean Gastaud created this garden on the ruins. The site blocks the north wind, and the rocky terrain drains well, making it ideal for drought-tolerant plants.
