🎨Local Art Appreciation: "Passion and Art" Chinese Painting Collection Exhibition 🖼️

✨"Passion and Art" is an exhibition held at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, located in the Ching Kuan Building Collection Hall on the 4th floor. This exhibition will display 99 works by the Chinese modern painter couple Xie Zhiliu and Chen Peiqiu, showing the evolution of their painting styles in different eras and highlighting their spirit of active exploration between tradition and innovation. This exhibition aims to pay tribute to their important contributions to the development of modern Chinese painting art and academia, while showcasing the life journey of this artist couple on the artistic path. ✨Xie Zhiliu (1910-1997) was a modern Chinese calligrapher, painter and appraiser. His painting style was inspired by Chen Hongshou, and he studied the Song and Yuan painting schools. He was also influenced by the Jin and Tang painting styles as well as the culture of Dunhuang and northern Guangdong, and eventually formed a unique artistic style. In his later years, Xie Zhiliu further studied the use of ink and created a unique artistic technique. In terms of academics, Xie Zhiliu made important contributions to topics such as the authentication of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting and the evolution of Chinese painting history, and conducted in-depth research on the inheritance of Chinese painting. ✨Chen Peiqiu (1923-2020) was a ninth-generation Chinese female painter. In her early years, she was influenced by the Song and Yuan painting schools. Later, she integrated the freehand brushwork of Bada and Xu Wei, and absorbed the influence of Western Impressionism, forming a fresh and luxurious artistic style dominated by ink and color. After the founding of New China, Chen Peiqiu focused on studying academic topics such as the comparison of Chinese and Western paintings and the appreciation of ancient calligraphy and painting. In his later years, he devoted himself to the appreciation and study of ancient paintings. ✨The exhibition will display some of their works, giving visitors the opportunity to appreciate the masterpieces of this artist couple up close. The Hong Kong Museum of Art is located at 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Admission is free. The exhibition will run from July 14 to October 25, 2023, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, and until 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
