HK’s Tram - 1st Stop!

The first tram stop on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island is **Shau Kei Wan**, a historic district that offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's past and local culture. Visiting Shau Kei Wan is worth it for several reasons: 1. **Rich History**: Once a fishing village and an important trading port, Shau Kei Wan retains a deep connection to Hong Kong’s maritime heritage. The **Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence**, housed in a former British military fort, provides insight into the city's strategic history. 2. **Authentic Local Experience**: Unlike the more commercialized parts of Hong Kong, Shau Kei Wan remains a local neighborhood with vibrant wet markets, traditional cha chaan tengs (local cafés), and family-run shops. 3. **Amazing Street Food**: The area is known for its bustling **Shau Kei Wan Main Street East**, where you can sample delicious local eats like fishball noodles, cheung fun (rice noodle rolls), and freshly made soy milk. 4. **Access to Nature**: It’s a gateway to **Dragon’s Back** and other hiking trails, as well as a short bus ride from the beautiful beaches of **Shek O** and **Big Wave Bay**, making it perfect for nature lovers. 5. **Scenic Tram Ride**: Taking the tram to Shau Kei Wan is an experience in itself—watching the cityscape transition from the skyscrapers of Central to the older, more traditional streets of the eastern district offers a unique perspective on Hong Kong’s diversity. For those looking to explore beyond the usual tourist spots, Shau Kei Wan provides a mix of history, culture, and local charm that makes it well worth a visit. #hongkongguide #shaukeiwan
