Weekend kayaking at Green Egg Island in Hong Kong

I had never tried water sports before, but this time I went kayaking at Green Egg Island near Clear Water Bay, and it was both fun and scenic! However, as a beginner, I found it a bit tiring since I couldn't quite master the rhythm of paddling. Green Egg Island became popular in Hong Kong during the pandemic, but I hadn't visited before because it requires kayaking to get there. The glassy sea there is truly breathtaking, and swimming or snorkeling allows you to see marine life like small fish, sea urchins, and corals—definitely worth the trip! This time, I rented a kayak from Lobster Kayak at Xiangsi Bay. Their service was very thoughtful—they sent out safety tips before departure, provided route guidance, explained wind directions, and demonstrated proper paddling techniques. The shop also offers basic facilities for rinsing off. Their service was excellent. Starting from Xiangsi Bay, there are several destinations to choose from, including Green Egg Island, Ngau Mei Chau, and Tiu Chung Chau, all of which boast beautiful scenery. Among them, Green Egg Island is the shortest route. Of course, you can also paddle freely in the sea. However, before heading out, make sure to check Hong Kong's weather conditions for the day. If there are strong wind or thunderstorm warnings, it's not safe to go into the water. Also, pay attention to the time—if you're planning to visit farther destinations, it's best to start early. On the day we went, we probably didn't master the paddling technique well and faced some headwinds, so the outbound trip alone took us 1 hour and 45 minutes.
