Best snorkeling spots on Koh Tao

My personal ranking of the best snorkeling spots on Koh Tao: Tanote Bay – the most beautiful reef and the most diverse underwater life we’ve seen on the island. Ao Hin Wong – cool reef, we spotted a turtle and baby sharks! But what impressed us the most was the chill vibe of the café on the beach — didn’t eat there, but it looked awesome. Ao Leuk – the only beach we visited that charges an entrance fee. Still worth it: nice reef, cute fish, and soft sand. Freedom Beach – a small, secluded beach with a great snorkeling bay. Shark Bay – we saw both sharks and turtles, but the entry isn’t ideal: super shallow and a long walk/swim in. You either risk scraping your belly on corals or stepping on them — neither is great. Sai Nuan Beach – kind of similar to the rest. Decent, but nothing mind-blowing.
