Boundary Island Lingshui, Hainan Upon arriving at Boundary Island, you'll see visitors from all over, some relaxing under beach umbrellas, enjoying the sea breeze and coconut palms, others sipping coffee at seaside pavilions, taking in the ocean view. Some are diving in the crystal-clear turquoise waters, while others enjoy jet skiing and other water sports, embracing the unique charm of this tropical island. Boundary Island offers numerous pavilions perfect for relaxing and gazing at the sea. Located on the mountainside and summit, each pavilion provides a unique perspective of the ocean. We took the sightseeing bus to our fourth stop, "Yuefeng Pavilion." As we stepped off the bus, we were greeted by a massive stone pillar reaching towards the sky—the "Ruyi Jingu Bang," also known as the "Dinghai God Needle." Behind it, atop a flight of stairs, hangs Boundary Island's "Judgment Pen" on a pen holder. Carved from solid wood and standing over 4 meters tall, its tip touches the ground, exuding an air of authority. Stone carvings of the Sun and Moon deities stand guard on either side. To the left of the Ruyi Jingu Bang is the Yuefeng Pavilion, nestled halfway up the mountain. Constructed with high-quality wood, it showcases the distinctive architectural style of Wenchang, Hainan. Relax in the Yuefeng Pavilion, savor tea or coffee, and embrace the gentle sea breeze. Let your mind wander, free from worries, and find your inner peace. Descending the steps from Yuefeng Pavilion, you'll see three large, vermillion characters painted on the opposite cliff face: "Jueduan Valley." This beautiful valley, nestled between mountain peaks, is framed by the blue sky and the vast ocean. Facing the sea, arms outstretched, embrace the sea breeze, and let all your troubles drift away. All that remains is the beauty before you and a vibrant future. Down the mountain path from Yuefeng Pavilion lies Boundary Island's iconic landmark—the Boundary Marker. This marker symbolizes multiple divisions. First, the line connecting the marker and the Niuling Tunnel on Hainan Island marks the boundary between the island's northern and southern climates, dividing Hainan into two distinct climatic zones. Second, it represents a significant cultural boundary between the Li, Miao, Hui, and other ethnic minority regions and the Han majority region, bearing witness to the cultural exchange and regional differences between these groups. Third, the marker also signifies the historical division between the former Qiongzhou Prefecture and Yazhou Prefecture, carrying the memories of history and administrative changes. It also marks the administrative boundary between Lingshui Li Autonomous County and Wanning City, signifying the intersection of two different administrative regions. Furthermore, the marker serves as a "spiritual boundary," a symbol of seeking inner peace and emotional balance. Whether you seek natural beauty or spiritual solace, this marker offers a unique experience and insight.
