Royal Agricultural Research Center Chiang Mai (Khun Wang)

The Chiang Mai Royal Agricultural Research Center (Khun Wang) was established after His Majesty the King visited Ban Khun Wang in 1980 and saw that the fields were heavily planted with opium. His Majesty ordered the Horticultural Division, Department of Agriculture, to use the fields as a place to experiment and propagate highland plants in order to promote and transfer technology to farmers in the highlands and to replace opium cultivation.
