This time, I would like to recommend that it is a must-see trip for friends who like history and love food - check in classic Manila Chinatown, then walk into the city's most famous historical attraction San Diego Fortress, and finally not forget to eat an authentic Filipino dessert Halo Halo, perfectly satisfy your "attractions + food" wish!
Must-see highlights in Manila are all at once: Chinatown, which presents different charms day and night, Spanish castle that guards the century-old city, and Halo Halo, a super authentic summer dessert. Surprise, feel the multiple faces of Manila in one day!
🗺️ Itinerary Highlights Recommended
1️⃣ Manila Chinatown│Traditional and trendy fusion of market style
From downtown Manila, the first stop is recommended to wander around Chinatown early in the morning. The whole street is lined with restaurants, including Chinese dim sum shops and Hong Kong-style restaurants, as well as trendy cafes and popular photo-taking shops. In the morning, you can come to a bowl of wonton noodles, check in and feel the lively atmosphere of the Chinese community. You can also find treasures at the herb shop or buy some souvenirs.
2️⃣ Fort Santiago│The most beautiful humanistic scenery, feel the history of Spanish colonialism

Stepping into Fort San Diego, I immediately felt that time had slowed down. This is one of Manila’s famous historical attractions, the fort is well preserved, the venue is designed with Western elements, and a close look at the stone walls, gardens, old-fashioned cannons and the remains of the castle are reminiscent of the glorious years of Philippine-Spanish exchange. It is recommended to reserve 1.5 hours to walk slowly along the riverside green space to enjoy the city view of Manila, encountering decorative sculptures and photo hotspots from time to time on the way. Especially recommended to take pictures on nice days, the sky is so blue that it seems like adding a filter, beyond the video!
3️⃣ Must try local dessert [Halo Halo]│Relieve the heat and have fun
After a day of wandering, of course we should have an authentic dessert to comfort ourselves! Halo Halo is a super classic local ice cream in the Philippines, with layers of ingredients that resemble ice cream meets shaved ice + fresh fruit, coconut, red beans, jelly... The point is, each shop has a different formula. This bowl I ate, the shaved ice, Q-bomb ingredients and fresh milk as a base, sweet but not greasy, one mouthful frozen all summer, highly recommended to try. It is recommended to discover the snack bars around Chinatown or Intramuros, and ask a few more which are the most popular with locals.
✈️ Other practical tips
· It's hot and humid weather in Manila, remember to wear cool clothes + belt to cover your sunscreen
· The San Diego Fortress Walking Area is steeper in some places, making it easier to walk in sneakers
· To arrange your trip along the way, you can walk 15 minutes from Chinatown to the Intramuros area, the street views along the way are worth savoring
· For transportation, Grab is recommended, very convenient.
A small day trip to Manila, history and food at once, worth chewing at a slow pace. The chance to discover more hidden attractions and snacks for you to unlock!
