The Quanzhou GuanYue Temple, known for its thriving incense burning

The Tonghuai GuanYue Temple is located in Tumen Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou City, commonly known as Tumen Guandi Temple, mainly worshipping Guan Yu. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Yue Fei was added to the worship, hence the current name. It is a famous place for worshipping the saints of literature (Confucius) and martial arts (Guan Yu), and it is also the largest existing martial temple in Fujian Province. The existing temple was rebuilt in the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), and was fully renovated again from 1986 to 1990. The temple faces north and south, composed of Wucheng Hall, Chongxian Hall, and Sanyi Temple, all of which are three entrances, with a building area of more than 1,300 square meters. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), when it was massively rebuilt, the front hall of the Sanyi Temple was retreated and lined up with the front hall of the main hall, making the three temples connected into one, forming a symmetrical structure and a spectacular architectural group. The restored halls, beautifully decorated with wood carvings, stone carvings and clay sculptures, and roof ridge ceramic dragon carvings, each with different shapes, interspersed with flowers, birds and beasts, reflect the artistic style of southern Fujian ancient architecture. The main hall is Wucheng Hall, with three rooms wide and five rooms deep, single eaves and hard mountain top, and through-bucket wooden frame. The main position is left to worship Guan Sheng Emperor (Guan Yu), and the right to worship Yue Wu Mu Wang (Yue Fei). Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Wang Jun, Xie Xuan, Han Qinhu, Li Jing, Guo Ziyi, Wang Yanzhang, Cao Bin, Di Qing, Xu Da and other 24 famous generals in history are worshipped. The Chongxian Hall on the left worships Guandi's great-grandfather Guangzhao, grandfather Yuchang, and father Chengzhong. The Sanyi Temple on the right worships Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, with Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun as the accompanying worship. The back of it was originally a flat house, now it has been rebuilt into a three-story building with antique decoration.
