Iceland's three major banks went bankrupt within a week, companies went bankrupt one after another, and people were living in dire straits. Iceland's prospects at the time were very bleak. Later, the government also declared bankruptcy. Harpa Opera House seemed to be unable to escape the fate of stopping construction.
