It is said that there are also ruins from the 3rd century BC. The decline of the city since ancient times led to the deterioration of the port, swamps, and a decrease in population. It is said that the sand dunes covering the ruins helped to preserve them. Like Pompeii, the ruins of Ostia provide historical information about Roman urbanism that is not accessible from the city itself. There are places to cool off, but bring water and snacks. It was cheap when I went there before..but the admission fee is quite expensive now..
