Strolling through Fudan University to Experience Chinese Philosophy and the Spirit of the Times

In the golden autumn of September 2024, I attended an advanced study course at Fudan University in Shanghai. Nestled in a corner of this bustling metropolis, the Handan campus of Fudan University, with its profound cultural heritage and beautiful campus environment, became a highlight of my trip. First Encounter with Fudan: The Fusion of History and Modernity Fudan University originated in 1905 as a private school founded by Ma Xiangguo, known as Fudan Public School, and currently has four campuses. Stepping into the Handan campus, the first thing that catches the eye is the traditional gate inscribed with "Fudan University" in Chairman Mao's handwriting, witnessing the vicissitudes and glory of Fudan. Within the campus, ancient buildings and modern teaching buildings complement each other, seemingly narrating a dialogue between history and modernity. As I strolled along the tree-lined paths, flanked by lush paulownia trees, the autumn breeze brought waves of floral fragrance, making one feel refreshed and relaxed. Academic Hall: The Ocean of Knowledge Fudan University is not only a time-honored institution but also an ocean of knowledge. My closed study at the School of Management was fruitful. The School of Management at Fudan University is a world-renowned business school, known as the cradle of entrepreneurs! During this period, I visited the library, which is rich in collections and has a strong academic atmosphere. Students were either engrossed in their studies or discussing in low voices, with every corner filled with a thirst for knowledge. This intensive training not only featured professors and deans from Fudan University and various colleges but also veteran leaders who witnessed the reform and opening up and the development of Pudong. Their erudition and enthusiasm deeply inspired me. Campus Life: The Colors of Youth On campus, I observed the daily life of Fudan students. They sweated on the sports field, savored delicacies in the cafeteria, and exchanged insights under the dormitory buildings. These ordinary yet vibrant scenes made me feel the colors of youth and the vitality of life. At the opening ceremony of this advanced study, the teacher delivering the speech emotionally said, "Everyone who comes to study at Fudan is addressed as a classmate and regarded as an alumnus!" Cultural Experience: The Edification of Art Fudan University not only emphasizes academic education but also pays great attention to aesthetic education. Wandering through the art exhibitions on campus, viewing various sculptures, and observing campus buildings from different periods not only immersed the students but also made me feel that Fudan, primarily known for its liberal arts and sciences, is not lacking in artistic charm. Unforgettable Journey at Fudan During my few days at the Handan campus of Fudan University, I not only gained new knowledge but also revisited the richness of campus life. The historical heritage, academic atmosphere, youthful vitality, and artistic edification here left a deep impression on me.
