🇯🇵Nagasaki｜Visit the Shimabara Samurai House 200 years ago!

Shimabara City in Nagasaki, Japan, became famous for the "Shimabara Rebellion", and many related historical sites have been preserved. The Samurai Residences are the remains of the Shimabara samurai residences. Three of the samurai residences have been preserved in their original appearance and are open to the public, allowing everyone to explore the residences of the samurai hundreds of years ago. ⭐️Clock Tower On the way to the Samurai Residence, you will pass by the clock tower, which is actually a bronze clock built in 1675. It has witnessed the changes in Shimabara City over the past few hundred years and is of great historical value. ⭐️Bukeyashiki Street The samurai residences to the west of Shimabara Castle were built as residences for lower-ranking samurai and were the residences of the infantry corps whose main force was teppo, so it is also called "teppo-cho." The houses in the 400-meter-long mansion town are neatly arranged. Except for a few samurai residences that have been preserved in their original appearance and are open to the public, the others are still inhabited, most of whom are descendants of the samurai. There is a small stream in the center of the road to the samurai residence, and the Shimabara spring water flows above it. It is very picturesque to stroll along the ancient roads and listen to the gurgling water. The Shinozuka residence is right opposite the souvenir shop. It was the residence of Gunkata Yubi (secretary), and its owner called himself Jun'emon for generations, and there were eleven generations until the early Meiji period. ⭐️Yamamoto Residence The first lord of the Yamamoto family, Gozaemon, who once lived here, was a retainer of the Lord of Matsudaira Domain and followed the lord to Shimabara. The Yamamoto residence even has a small back garden, which shows how important their status was. ⭐️Torida Residence Torida-tei was the residence of an important official of Lord Matsudaira. When I visited, the hydrangeas at the gate were in full bloom. It can be seen that the living environment here is so beautiful and pleasant. Walking on the samurai residence and listening to the sound of water is like going back in time.
