Taipei Lantern Festival | Xibenyuan Temple

Xibenyuan Temple is located about a 5-minute walk from Ximen MRT Station in Taipei. Built during the Japanese colonial period, it served as the Taiwan branch of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect. The architecture combines Japanese Buddhist styles and was used for spreading Buddhism, holding ceremonies, funerals, and social aid. After the war, due to lack of maintenance, the building gradually deteriorated, and most of it was destroyed by fire in 1975. In 2006, the bell tower and Shuxin Hall were designated as municipal heritage sites, and other remains were listed as historic buildings. It was renovated in 2011 and opened to the public in 2013. The lantern festival decorations are beautiful from every angle, and you can see many photographers with professional cameras. You can also hang wish cards on the lanterns, which is really beautiful! Xibenyuan Temple No. 174, Section 1, Zhonghua Road, Wanhua District, Taipei City
