Old City Museum

The Tianjin Old City Museum is located in the traditional residential Xu Family Courtyard, originally the home of Xu Pu'an, the comprador for the British firm Macaire in Tianjin, built at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. It is a well-preserved typical traditional residential compound with three courtyards and four combined courtyards in the Tianjin city area. The museum courtyard adopts the Chinese architectural style, with gray bricks and hard mountain tops. The overall architecture faces south from the north, with the main house in the front and the gate in the back, and the central axis is composed of three sets of courtyards, flanked by arrow paths on the east and west sides. The museum's first courtyard and the side rooms of the second and third courtyards display various old city relics donated by the public, including the 'official steelyard' used for weighing grain at the Tianjin Canal Transport Wharf in the second year of the Tongzhi era, mahogany 'lamp boxes', boundary stones from the Jiangsu Guild Hall, 'refrigerators' from the Republic of China period, as well as thread-bound books recording Tianjin's folk customs, old records, Qing Dynasty wooden rice and flour measures, Yangliuqing New Year painting boards, wooden pot sets, wooden canopies, support stoves, and a collection of century-old copper beds, seat clocks, hand-cranked record players, radios, and so on. Tickets are 5 yuan, and the opening hours are from 9 am to 5 pm every Tuesday to Sunday. You can take buses No. 5, 24, 37, 635, 651, 675, 836, 878, 908 and get off at the Drum Tower East Station to reach the destination.
