We came, Hacksaw, we respected

As we got the ferry back early from Tokashiki Island, it gave us a greater chance to explore Naha, Okinawa’s capital. The real gem was Hacksaw Ridge. Being interested in both history, especially that of the Second World War, and cinema, we all had a great appreciation for this site. A famous landmark due to the heroics of Desmond Doss, a US medic and conscientious objector who saved 75 lives in one night at this hellish battleground without ever holding a weapon. Portrayed by Andrew Garfield in Mel Gibson’s stunning epic, we were all humble by the thought of his incredible actions at this site which saved so many lives all those years ago
