The only Lama Temple in Shaanxi Province

Come and see Guangren Temple - Located in the northwest corner inside the Ming City Wall of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, it is the only main practice center for Green Tara in China, as well as the only Gelug sect monastery in the Shaanxi region. It was built in the forty-fourth year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1705) when Emperor Kangxi allocated special funds for its construction during his inspection tour of Shaanxi. Guangren Temple served as the palace for high-ranking lamas such as the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama when they passed through Shaanxi on their way to Beijing. Hence, it is also known as 'Lama Temple'. Inside the temple, there is one of the only two life-sized statues of the Buddha at the age of twelve in the world, the largest Thousand-Handed Guanyin in Shaanxi Province, the only exquisite Thousand Buddha Hall in China, and it is also the offering site of Princess Wencheng in Chang'an. In 1983, Guangren Temple was listed by the State Council as a national key temple. In 2022, the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism organized an assessment and designated the Guangren Temple Cultural Scenic Area in Xi'an as a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
