It is also known as the "Jianfu Temple Pagoda" and was built during the Jinglong period of the Tang Dynasty. It is an important landmark of Chang'an City, Tang Dynasty, along with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient bell in the bell tower of Jianfu Temple are collectively known as the "Morning Bell of the Wild Goose Pagoda," one of the "Eight Views of Guanzhong." The Small Wild Goose Pagoda and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda face each other from east to west and are two important landmarks of Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty, that have been preserved to this day. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was called the "Jianfu Temple Pagoda" during the Tang and Song Dynasties, and its name is related to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. In the third year of the Yonghui period of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty (652), the court funded the construction of a pagoda in the west courtyard of the Daci'en Temple in Chang'an to house the Buddhist scriptures brought back by Xuanzang from India. This pagoda was named the Wild Goose Pagoda. In the first year of the Jinglong period of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty (707), palace maids raised funds, and the famous monk Dao'an presided over the construction of a smaller pagoda in Jianfu Temple. Later, to distinguish between the two pagodas, the pagoda in Daci'en Temple was named the "Big Wild Goose Pagoda," and the pagoda in Jianfu Temple, which resembled the Wild Goose Pagoda but was smaller than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, was named the "Small Wild Goose Pagoda," a name that has been passed down to this day. Today, both places have become famous tourist attractions in the ancient city of Xi'an and are well-preserved cultural relics among the landmarks of the ancient city.
