Westward in Spain ~ Zamora (region) The Temple of Las Batallas is located on the outskirts of the city, standing in a pine forest by the Duero River. It features the characteristic design of Romanesque-Mudejar architecture. It is built of exposed bricks, with a nave and a semicircular apse, followed by a straight section. The roof of the nave is a traditional gabled roof, while the rest is covered with vaults. The surrounding exterior and interior are decorated with classic enclosed semicircular arcades, which in this case are designed as double arcades, making them highly stylized. It has two entrances, both with pointed arched doors topped with pediments. Highlights of the interior include late 15th-century murals decorating the walls of the apse.
