It's been two years since my last visit to Hawaii, and this time a friend took me to an amazing place. Sunset Beach Park We moved from Haleiwa in time for the sunset. When we finally parked the car and went to the beach, we were moved by the view. We rented a limousine to get from Honolulu Airport to the city! It was surprisingly cheap, less than $100, so I recommend it if you're traveling with a group of multiple people. Oahu is the main island of the state of Hawaii. Here, you'll also find Hawaii's largest and most famous city, Honolulu. This being said, you'll find something for everyone here. First and foremost, you cannot miss Honolulu and it's famous Waikiki beach. Here you'll be rewarded with blue lagoon colored waters and countless hotels and restaurants along the strip. Although the shops are quite touristy and pricey, you'll find everything you need here. Honolulu is also site to many historic attractions such as Pearl Harbor. At this historic memorial you can take a boat to the site where the USS Arizona lies sunk in the harbor. The memorial is sombre and is important to the the remembrance for those who died during the war. In a more upbeat note, take a stroll around the downtown area for quirky and contrasting architecture styles and discover a bit of the important Asian community at Honolulu's Chinatown. There's countless wonderful beaches all along the coasts of Oahu. Some that come to mind are Hanauma Bay and Lanikai beach, the latter of which is home to rich turquoise colored calm waters; simply paradisical ! There are also great hiking opportunities on Oahu. Diamond Head is an inactive volcano and lovely hiking trail right outside of Waikiki. It offers wonderful views of the city below. Koko Head is also a challenging but rewarding hiking trail that is less busy. Overall, Oahu is an extremely fun place to visit. You'll find historic memorials, a cosmopolitan city, beautiful beaches and great hiking trails; you'll definitely find something for everyone! When you think of Hawaii, you think of the ocean! When you think of the ocean, you think of marine sports! I experienced paragliding for the first time on my trip to Hawaii! We could go with two or three people :) I was so happy to be able to go up high in the sky and see the beautiful scenery of Hawaii 🥰 I wondered if it would be scary to go up high, but I don't think it felt that scary ㅋㅋㅋ The weather was great, I felt so good, and it remains as a happy memory. Three must do things in Oahu. 1- Surf at Waikiki Beach. This is a great spot for beginners to learn to surf. The waves are gentle and make it easy to learn how to stand up on your board. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset. 2- Hike Diamond Head. Diamond Head is an extinct volcanic crater with some of the best views of the island. It’s a reality rly easy hike which can take around 1-2 hours, depending on how many times you stop to take photos. 3- Walking around Lanikai Beach. This is one of the most breathtaking beaches I’ve seen. Directly in front of the beach is a small island that you are able to be boated out to. Hawaii is more than a romantic location. if you are seeking adventure then Hawaii is truly a place for you! The scenery in Hawaii is something out of a movie! It's lush, green and beautiful! One of the most popular hikes is called Stairway to Heaven. You can hike to the top using the back route. The only issue is that it takes about 4-6 hours to do it but it is perfectly legal. Trying to hike mountain using the stairs is actually illegal and there is police in the area looking out for tourists trying to do this hike. You could be fined up to $1000 as well. Oahu is a great car! If you are fast, you can get around the island in one day, but if you don't want to leave Waikiki Beach too far, you can go to the East China Sea for a lap of up to 2 to 3 hours. The shore of the East China Sea is the most popular tourist route on Oahu Island, with beautiful views of the cliffs of the sea and the waves. There are also countless observation platforms along the road, and each observation deck has beautiful natural scenery. There are also many beaches along the way, free beaches are available for a fee, and of course most are free. Some visitors don't like the excitement of Waikiki Beach, they choose to drive to the farther beaches and enjoy the priority island holidays. Makapuu Beach Park is located at the eastern end of Oahu, belonging to the Windward Coast and adjacent to Sea Life Park Hawaii. There is also a church next to it. I heard that many people choose to take wedding photos here or hold a simple beach wedding.

When I was traveling in Honolulu, Hawaii, it was during Christmas. In order to better understand and experience the place, we decided to stay at the local homestay. The owner of the home, Carlos, is a very interesting person. At his invitation, we followed him to the sea for Christmas! Since Hawaii is at 20-24 degrees Celsius all the year round, Carlos had planned to wear Santa's clothes to add a festive atmosphere. However, it was a little hot in the afternoon. Carlos had to take off his shirt and wear only Santa's pants and hat. So, the picture was very funny! It was a very special and unforgettable experience of Christmas. The most rare thing is that we also get to see two rainbows! Hawaii is really the town of the rainbows.

Overall, I would rate the stay a 4.5, but I decided to round up because of how smoothly the hotel operated during a hurricane—it was very impressive! First and foremost, the staff at the hotel were incredible, from the valet and registration desk to the Monkey Pod servers, bar hosts, housekeepers, and activities center team. Everyone was so friendly and professional. I arrived early, and without even asking, they offered me a complimentary upgrade to a room with a partial ocean view. Considering I had booked through a third party, this felt especially generous. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly spacious for a more urban-style hotel setup. I never felt cramped. The shower offered excellent water pressure, and I liked the soaps they provided. The entire hotel was immaculate—it was clean and smelled great everywhere. The design of the lobby, hallways, and rooms struck a great balance between comfort, polish, and modern aesthetics, which I really appreciated. As for beach access, it’s well-designed and lets you easily approach the ocean. While there isn’t much beach directly attached to the property, it’s still lovely to walk from the hotel to the sand with a fantastic view of Diamond Head. At Monkey Pod, which I visited on a hurricane-affected busy day, the food and drinks were good, but not extraordinary, and the portions seemed pricey for the cost. However, the service staff was exceptionally friendly. The bar left a better impression—it featured live music, quality drinks, and good food. Although expensive, it felt like better value. I also appreciated the convenience of the on-site ABC Store, which proved very useful. The pool area was great as well, with refreshing water, perfect for the warm weather in Oahu. Though not enormous, the pool has a somewhat deep design. Additionally, the three different hot tubs, each featuring unique water pressure, were a nice touch. Going early made it easier to secure a good spot. Unfortunately, my trip was plagued by heavy rain, so I didn’t get to enjoy the pool as much as I would have liked. Now for the cons: I wish there were more filtered water stations available on each floor because lines tended to form at the single station during peak usage. The open-concept design of the lobby and hallways made the hotel incredibly humid when the weather was bad. The only respite was inside the room with the AC running, which thankfully worked well. Lastly, during the storm, the hotel didn't mop or place rain mats anywhere, leaving the lobby, elevator areas, and hallways very wet and slippery. I almost slipped several times, which was concerning. All things considered, OUTRIGGER Reef was the only hotel on the Waikiki strip that avoided a power outage during the hurricane, and their communication throughout the stay was top-notch. My experience here was truly enjoyable, and I would absolutely return. It was worth every penny. Thank you so much, OUTRIGGER Reef staff!

The nighttime paddleboarding in Oahu was an absolute blast. We got to paddle alongside sea turtles, which was amazing, and the fireworks display was stunning! The team was incredibly attentive and ensured everyone felt safe while having an amazing experience.

Had a fantastic 5/5 experience doing 10 dives with Ed. Years ago, he certified our son for open water by handling the ocean dives (after completing coursework and pool work in California). On this recent trip in July-August 2026, our son advanced to certifications in enriched air diver and advanced open water. Ed was highly attentive and we appreciated diving with Oahu Travel Divers, as their smaller boat avoids the "cow-herd" atmosphere seen with some other operators. Plus, nitrox diving is included. The dives from Kewalo Basin were amazing—we visited sites like Sea Tiger multiple times, End Pipe, Blocks, Yo-257, Pinnacles, and Tug Boat. The highlight was spotting a whale shark, a magical experience since we'd never seen one before. Ed was a safe and skilled instructor, keeping a close eye on our 15-year-old son, who thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and dives. We recommend Ed and Oahu Travel Divers for diving on the South Shore (Kewalo Basin). Ed also mentioned upcoming access to a Hawaii Kai boat, which could be of interest to some. Since we stay at Ko Olina, Kewalo Basin was more convenient for us. Highly recommend diving with them!

The view of the ocean waves crashing against the island of Oahu is absolutely breathtaking from this high vantage point. The hike down is short but quite steep, so wearing tennis shoes is advisable. I wouldn't recommend this spot for those with babies or toddlers.

The room's location and atmosphere were delightful and pleasing! The staff were courteous and accommodating. The rooms were spotless, and the entire hotel consistently had a fresh, clean and pleasant aroma. The location near the beach was exactly what I hoped for! Restaurants and shopping were within walking distance, and Uber was incredibly affordable and punctual. The drivers were friendly and often shared great recommendations for dining or scenic spots. Everyone was wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely book this hotel again on my next trip to Oahu!

Our family of four absolutely loved our stay here. My boyfriend and I returned another time, just the two of us, and had an equally amazing experience! I'd definitely recommend this place for families, couples, or even solo travelers. During our stay at Queen Kapiolani, we had no complaints. The staff was outstanding, the hotel itself was clean and beautifully maintained. Our room was spacious, spotless, and offered a breathtaking view. The pool was a hit with the kids, especially in the evenings. We opted for valet parking, which turned out to be another seamless experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and always quick to retrieve our car. Whenever we walked to the beach, we borrowed chairs from the hotel, which was super convenient. The only slight downside, though hardly a problem, was occasionally having to wait for the elevator during peak times. Even then, squeezing into the elevator wasn’t an issue if we chose to do so. Whenever I visit Oahu, I stay here, and every single time is an incredible experience. Highly recommend booking your trip here!
