The Oku-no-Hosomichi Musubi Site in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, is where Matsuo Basho wrote the final haiku, "The clams are separated into two, and autumn is coming," in his haiku travelogue, "Oku-no-Hosomichi," about his journey through Tohoku and Hokuriku. Currently, a memorial hall has been built at the Musubi Site, and you can get a glimpse of Matsuo Basho's journey. Ogaki Castle in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, is a rare four-story castle tower that is loved by locals as a symbol of Ogaki. During the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, it was the base of Ishida Mitsunari of the Western Army and a fierce battle unfolded. The nearby Sumoto Ichiya Castle is a famous tourist spot, but if you are sightseeing, we recommend you drop by Kojuji Temple as well. It is about a 5-minute walk from Sumoto Castle, and there is also a parking lot dedicated to the temple. The temple is located in a residential area and has a quiet atmosphere. When we visited in June, there was a beautiful hydrangea water fountain, which was in bloom within the temple grounds. In early spring, plum blossoms are in bloom, and you can enjoy seasonal flowers and the water fountain. There is no doubt that you will feel soothed. #QuintessaCampaign

This temple is known locally as Kokuzo-san. It is located at the top of a mountain, so the view of the Nobi Plain looking down from there is spectacular. Speaking of views, the view on the other side of the Nobi Plain, at a place known as the Gifu Pyramid, is also incredibly spectacular. It is a limestone quarry and looks just like a pyramid! You can reach it from Kokuzo-san by short walk along the mountain path. You can also drive part of the way up, so even those with weak legs can visit.

Sunomata Ichiya Castle is famous for being built by Hideyoshi as a base for attacking Inabayama Castle. I visited when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. I took photos of the cool castle, the vermilion bridge, the cherry blossoms and the rape blossoms in various combinations, and it was fun taking photos from all different angles. Entry to the castle costs 200 yen.

Aikoen (Aikoen) A park located in Tawaramachi 2, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, where you can enjoy the scent of trees all year round. There is a small fountain and a statue of Iinuma Yokusai, a doctor and botanist from the Edo period. Although it is called a park, it is not large, but there are many trees. #triplucky2022

Sumiyoshi Lantern and Funamachi Port Ruins A historic site located around Funamachi 1-2, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture. It is said that the Sumiyoshi Lighthouse was built in 1840 as a port sign and a nighttime landmark. You can get off near the river. Rainbow Bridge/Shiki no Hiroba 159 Baba-cho, Ogaki-shi, Gifu Prefecture The bridge over the Suimon River is called the Rainbow Bridge. There is a pipe keyboard on the bridge that can make sounds. From Shiki no Hiroba, you can see the gazebo and boats, and it's a beautiful view. #triplucky2022

Ogaki Park A park located at 2-53 Goryomachi, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, with Ogaki Castle on its grounds. There are playground equipment, a plaza, and a fountain, and the winter-blooming cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The park is free to enter, and you can get close to the castle. #triplucky2022

Ogaki Castle 2-52 Goryomachi, Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture 7 minutes walk from the south exit of JR Ogaki Station. The castle is said to have been built in 1535 by Miyagawa Yoshizaemon-no-jo Yasusada, a member of the Toki clan and the guardian of Mino Province. The natural drinking water bought in Japanese supermarkets tastes super good, much better than Nongfu Spring. I will definitely buy a few more bottles next time I have the chance. Japanese fruit wine is also super delicious!

This waterfall, read as 'Bijou no Taki,' is an artificial creation. However, the sound of the falling water is refreshing, and it perfectly embodies the charm of Ogaki, often referred to as the 'City of Water.' This local museum opened in 1985. You can enter with a joint admission ticket for Ogaki Castle for 200 yen! It's right next to Ogaki Park, so we recommend stopping by after visiting the castle! We weren't able to take photos inside, but it's a facility that introduces the history of Ogaki, and there are exhibits such as portraits of feudal lords. This spacious park in Ogaki City is rich in nature and has walking courses and playground equipment. It has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 historical parks, and is a well-maintained and beautiful place with a lawn plaza and a fountain! It is located about a 15-minute walk from Ogaki Station. If you are coming by car, it is convenient to use the adjacent municipal parking lot. While walking around Ogaki city, I visited Kinchoen Souhonke, a long-established Japanese sweets shop! Their specialty is Mizumanju. Chilled in ice water, the smooth Mizumanju is perfect for summer and looks refreshing. It has a refreshing sweetness, so if you go to Ogaki, you should try it at least once! The price is also reasonable, which is great. You can also eat in the shop! This is a park right next to Ogaki City Hall. It's located right next to the Mizumon River and is a new and very clean facility. It seems that events are held regularly in the square. There are also many benches, so it's the perfect place to take a break when you get tired of walking around Ogaki. The cherry blossoms in "The Land of Oku-no-Hosomichi Musubi," an area closely connected to Matsuo Basho, are a famous cherry blossom spot that has been selected as one of the "33 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Hida, Mino, and Hokkaido." Ogakifunacho Kawaminato is a scenic spot designated as a national place of scenic beauty as a scenic spot on the Oku-no-Hosomichi trail, and at night the cherry blossoms are lit up, allowing you to enjoy them while thinking of Basho.

On a leisurely spring afternoon, strolling along the cherry blossom path will make you feel relaxed and at ease.

#Spring0yenTrip Ogaki was a place where you could feel the atmosphere of a quiet town and a water town. Ogaki Castle, located a short walk from the station, is a small castle ruin, but has a historical presence, and the view from the castle tower is surprisingly open, allowing you to see the surrounding townscape. There is a moat around the castle, making it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll. Ogaki is also the end point of the "Hosomichi of the Deep North," and when I visited the Oku-no-Hosomichi Musubi no Chi Memorial Museum, I learned that Matsuo Basho ended his journey here and was able to feel Basho's footsteps. At the museum, Basho's journey and poems are on display, and I was able to learn at length while feeling his thoughts. Walking through the town of Ogaki, I was able to immerse myself in its history while imagining the scenery that Basho saw, and I felt a deeper meaning that the Oku-no-Hosomichi ended here. The scenery with its canals and ponds exuded an atmosphere that seemed like it could have appeared in a Basho haiku, and time passed peacefully.
