[Hokkaido] Learn history at the Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museum!
\\Tourist Spots//
The Seikan Tunnel connects Honshu and Hokkaido. This museum teaches you through exhibits and videos about how this grand plan came to fruition.
We were also able to see the actual boring machine up close. There was also a railway sign for Yoshioka Undersea Station, which can now only be accessed in the event of an evacuation, so railway enthusiasts are sure to be excited!
There are two Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museums, one on the Honshu side (Cape Tappi, Aomori Prefecture) and one on the Hokkaido side (Fukushima, Matsumae District). Please note that the museum on the Honshu side is the one where you can experience the tunnel!

Yokozuna Chiyonoyama & Chiyonofuji Memorial Museum
"Yokozuna Chiyonoyama/Chiyonofuji Memorial Hall" is located along National Route 228. Parking is available at the roadside station opposite the building. There are JAF discounts available, but the best deal is the set ticket (700 yen for adults) that includes the Fukushima Town Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museum, which is a few hundred meters away.
Many related materials such as Chiyonofuji's activities, trophies, shields, and certificates were on display.
It seems that taking photos is not prohibited.
The Shirafudai Shrine
Visit Shirafu Daijingu Shrine in Shirafu, Fukushima Town. This is a medium-sized shrine about 100 meters from National Route 228, on top of a hill with a huge cypress tree. A beautiful brown first torii gate, stone steps made of round stones hardened with concrete, and a large onko tree. Turn left and see the second brown torii gate. The stone steps continue. From the Chozuya, turn right up the stone steps and when you reach the top, you will see a shrine building with a red roof. A small shrine with a red roof and walls has a stone staircase on the upper left. No company office.
Rent a car to drive yourself. Tohoku, Japan. Snow falling.
Review of renting a car for a road trip in the Tohoku region in northern Japan, just below Hokkaido. We rented from Toyota rent a car with the Tohoku pass, which is a flat rate expressway pass. We actually didn't use it to its full potential because the route we were taking was less expensive. However, for peace of mind and to avoid going off-route and unexpected expenses, it's better to buy one. It's very convenient. You must have an international driver's license according to the convention. Add snow tires, easy to grip, drive slowly. But maybe because my boyfriend is a good driver, he drives well. It's convenient for tourist attractions where there are few public transportation or it's difficult to access. You can stop wherever you want without worry. #TravelJapan
