The City Wall of Xi'an
Xi'an City Wall
Getting there: Line 2 of the subway, yongningmen station.
Located in the centre of the city, the city wall of Xi'an runs for several kilometers. For an entry fee of around 58RMB, you can spend the entire day walking around it and enjoying the scenery.
Alternatively, you can pay a little extra and ride a bike around the wall to get fit.
Suggestion: you can enter via south, west and north gate. I recommend the south gate because you can enjoy the best views of Bell Tower.

The Best Preseved City wall in China
#china #xiancitywall #urbanexplorer
Xi’an in Shaanxi province is well known for the famous burial site of the first emperor of China, but you mustn’t miss it’s other treasures whilst staying there.
The fortifications of the ancient city are some of the largest, oldest and best preserved in all of China. Dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties the wall encased an area of around 14 square kilometres - so get ready for some serious exercise!
We hired bicycles on the top of the wall and spent the evening exploring the various structures atop it as well as the glittering views of the city.
Once coming down, make sure to take the quick walk to the Drum tower (third photo) for another beautiful view.
Bicycle ride on Xi'an Wall
Getting There - There are 4 different gates that you can enter. You can walk there, take a bicycle or a taxi.
Attractions - The length of Xi'an City Wall 13,47km that you can walk or rent a bicycle and ride around on the city wall. You can stop along the way and look at the buildings along the way, stop for a drink or ice-cream or look at the view outside of the city wall. It's 45 yuan to rent a bicycle and 100 yuan for deposit that you get back when you bring the bicycle back.
Hotels - A lot of hotels you can choose from in the area around the city wall. My preference is Crystal Orange Hotel it's close to the wall and their service is great.
Food & Restaurants - There are a few stands where you can buy something to eat or drink.
Shopping - There are a few kiosks where you can buy ice-cream and drinks and souvenir shops.

Beautiful Xi'an
Xi'an City Wall is also known as Fortification of Xi'an. It is a massive compound scaling around 13.7 kilometre and stands 12 metre high in the middle of the Xi'an City. Regarded as one of the largest ancient military defensive system in the world, it was built during the Ming Dynasty (1370).
It has four main gates; East Gate (Changle Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), North Gate (Anyuan Gate). We went through the Yongning Gate as it is the most decorated one.
Visitors are able to walk along the wall and enjoy its inner and outer walls, watchtowers, moat, and landscape from an elevated view. While we opted for cycling around the wall because the place was huge and we were all tired by the walking.
we stayed until night to witness the lights on lanterns.
we loved the place so much
