Beautiful temple worth the hike
Fushimi Inari Taisha is part of our Kyoto’s highlight. This temple has been featured in many Japan’s photos as the iconic Japan culture.
Finally, we made our way here on a beautiful day. The walk up the mountain is gentle. However, it can get very crowded. So do come early before the crowd arrives. Along the way, you will be treated with beautiful Tori gates and gorgeous view of Kyoto at the summit.

Kyoto | the most iconic spot that you can’t miss with your kimono😍
Fushimi Inari is such an icon of Kyoto recently that everyone must visit when travelling to this charming city and of course it has been one of the major highlights of my trip⛩️
We decided to dress in Kimono to come to this famous spot from a rental nearby and it’s the best decision! All the photos are super beautiful here and you will easily spend hours walking around and taking photos! When you follow the path to head back down, there is also a japanese tea shop where you can chill and enjoy their authentic drinks. I highly recommend it to you guys!
It’s very famous to capture the thousands of shrine gates and people tend to arrive as early as possible to capture without the crowds. But we headed to that spot at 3pm and just by taking photos on the left side instead of the right, you will have photos of only you and the shrine gates at the background just like the first photo!

An Aquarium of Art
#timetotravel
I have never visited a museum quite like the Art Aquarium Museum in Tokyo’s Ginza district. It is a living museum where thousands of common and rare goldfish are displayed in aquarium tanks of different sizes and shapes and colors. It is a calming experience walking through the museum and listening to soft music and flowing water, seeing the colors change and the goldfish swim around.

Sea Paradise
#timetotravel
We spent the entire day at the Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise for my boyfriend’s birthday. The park is pretty large and includes several different areas: the Aqua Museum, Dolphin Fantasy, Umi Farm, and Fureai Lagoon. There are also some rides and several eateries around. We awed at the massive polar bear in the Aqua Museum, watched a marine mammal show and dolphin performances, and rode the Leviathan roller coaster. Definitely a fun and educational day.

Tallest Structure in Japan
#timetotravel
The Tokyo Skytree, which was completed in 2012, is a television and radio broadcast tower and currently the tallest structure in Japan. We had tickets to go up around sunset time, but there was not much of a sunset due to rain. The nighttime views are still great, but it was pretty crowded, including at the glass floor where you can view down. A few cafes and a restaurant are also available with nice views.

Muji Ginza Flagship Store
#timetotravel
The Muji flagship store in Tokyo’s Ginza district has six floors and some unique features, including a cafe and bakery on the first floor and even a hotel and restaurant up above! Unfortunately, when we visited, several floors were unavailable due to renovations, so we didn’t get to browse apparel, but we did look through the household items and purchased some bedsheets and pillowcases (tax-free for foreigners).

Immersing Oneself into Art
#timetotravel
TeamLab Planets Tokyo is an amazing experience to have an immersive art experience. There are spaces where you walk through water and interact with light displays, where you feel like you are floating with flowers while smelling floral bouquets, and see amazing mirrored reflections. Tickets here sell out quickly, so it is best to book your visit ahead of time. Women should also avoid wearing short skirts because of all the mirrored floors, but they do have rental shorts available.

"Exploring Kyoto's enchanting beauty”
Finally, I was in Kyoto, a city that had captured my imagination for years with its rich history and serene beauty. My first stop was my cozy ryokan in the Gion district, a traditional Japanese inn with tatami mat floors and sliding paper doors. The innkeeper welcomed me with a warm smile and a cup of matcha tea. I knew this trip was off to a great start.#trip #travel #japan #kyoto
Fantastic location in Shinjuku
This hotel is located in a fantastic location within walking distance to Shinjuku Station. There is a lift next to the hotel, making travel with luggage super easy.
The hotel is also an airport shuttle stop, should you prefer Limousine bus for direct trip to Haneda Airport.
Room is on a small size and a bit outdated. However, given its location and the right price, I will return to this hotel for my future stay in Tokyo.

Walk through the famous Dotonbori street
Osaka is considered as the kitchen of Japan and Dotonbori is said to be the best place in Osaka to experience a wide variety of food.
Not only that, the shop front of the restaurant or food place has many interesting and quirky decoration to make it recognizable from far.
Dotonbori is accessible by Namba station or Nipponbashi station. I recommend arriving around 5pm when it is less crowded so that you can have a more enjoyable walk through this busy street.

Japan’s Eiffel Tower
Tokyo Tower is the second tallest structure in Japan and built in 1958. It looks like a red and white Eiffel Tower. We visited around sunset and caught some nice views of the city. There is also a glass floor that you can walk on and look down (not recommended for those scared of heights). You can purchase separate tickets to go up to the top floor. We grabbed dinner at the food court downstairs afterwards, which was convenient, and there were many souvenir shops too.

Traditional Home in Kyoto
We stayed at Kyo Akari Inn for five nights while visiting Kyoto. We had the whole place to ourselves - kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms, and an office. There was even a small zen courtyard in the back with a tsukubai (washbasin). The home was decorated in the traditional Japanese style with tatami mats and sliding screen doors - very beautiful and peaceful. It was also conveniently located near convenience and grocery stores, the Gojo train station, and we were able to walk to Nishiki Market and Kyoto Station.

Yasaka-jinja Shrine
The Yasaka-jinja shrine is a Shinto shrine dating back to the year 656. Despite its age, the buildings and the grounds were very well maintained. We followed recommendations to visit at night because the weather was cooler and there were few people, and the shrine is beautifully lit up. It is also near the Gion district which is buzzing with shops, restaurants, and bars, so we grabbed a nice bowl of ramen nearby afterwards.

Deer Park
Unlike the deer I am familiar with in North America, the deer at Nara Park are not afraid of humans at all. We visited the park and were surprised to see thousands and thousands of deer everywhere. Many visitors buy crackers to feed the deer, but please beware that the hungry deer can be overly eager for treats and start nipping and chasing people 😂 It was a fun place to spend a day observing so many deer interacting with people playfully.

Follow the Red Gates
One of the most iconic Shinto shrines in Kyoto is the Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its thousands of torii gates. We were surprised at just how large the area is and how long the trails are - we spent over two hours hiking up and down the hills, following the bright red gates and passing by many small shrines. We arrived late in the afternoon and were lucky to catch the sun setting over Kyoto at a lookout point on the hill.

Pure Water Temple
Kiyomizu-dera is a Buddhist temple dating back to the 8th century. It has a large wooden platform constructed without any nails, and there were lots of visitors taking pictures with the beautiful view of the hills and Kyoto. It also has a small waterfall that is split into three streams, and visitors can queue to get a chance to drink from one of the streams. They say each stream represents good luck in longevity, studies, or love.

Temple of the Golden Pavilion
Kinkaku-ji (aka Rokuan-ji) is a Zen Buddhist temple that was originally a villa dating back to 1397. It was later converted to a temple, and the famous three-story Golden Pavilion is cover with gold leaf, which is meant to reduce any negative sentiments toward death. The surrounding gardens and walking trails are very scenic as well. We spent a little over an hour here walking along the trails and taking photos. There were lots of people and tour groups here since this is a popular tourist site.

Tower of Yasaka
Yasaka Pagoda (aka Hokan-ji Temple) is one of the iconic structures in Kyoto. It is a five-story buddhist temple dating back to the 6th or 7th century. We visited in the evening when there are fewer tourists around, but still found lots of people at the best photo spots taking pictures with the pagoda. It is still worth wandering around the alleys nearby - there are small izakayas, sake bars, and coffee shops around to explore while getting different perspectives of this beautiful historical landmark.

Kyoto Shopping Streets
I visited Teramachi and Shinkyogoku three times for food, shopping, and currency exchange (one of the money exchange machines here had the best exchange rate I found in Kyoto). The white roof indicates shopping street, and we bought some souvenirs and accessories here. There are some unique and interesting second-hand vintage clothing shops, nice cafes and bakeries (including several pet cafes - dogs, cats, and even micro pigs). There are even a few shrines scattered around between the shops.

Nishiki Market
Nishiki Market is a must-visit market in Kyoto. Visitors can buy all sorts of different Japanese food and snacks. We first went late in the evening and were disappointed that most shops were already closed by 7pm, so we went back on our last day in Kyoto around noon, and the street was packed with people. We tried some tempura, pickled cucumbers, and bought some Japanese honey and herbal teas. The red, green, yellow roof indicates food street, and the white roof indicates shopping streets.
