Casual strolls and one-day trips around Tokyo for the May Day holiday!
❤ I've finally arrived at the other side of the 'Anywhere Door' —— Ushiku Daibutsu!
🌟 Ushiku Daibutsu is a giant Buddha statue located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It is the third tallest Buddha statue in the world and the tallest structure in Ibaraki Prefecture.
👍 The Ushiku Daibutsu stands 120 meters tall, with the statue itself being 100 meters and the base 20 meters. Its official name is Ushiku Amida Buddha, and it was constructed in 1989. It is a building of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Pure Land Buddhism, specifically the Eastern Main Temple of the sect. The materials used include one thousand tons each of copper and iron.
❤ The exterior of Ushiku Daibutsu is impressively grand, and the interior of the statue is open to visitors. Inside, you can climb to the highest point of the statue to enjoy the scenery of Ibaraki, offering a unique experience. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji and Tokyo Skytree.
✅ The first floor of the statue is the 'World of Light,' showcasing a space that represents the Pure Land. The second floor is the 'World of Gratitude and Repayment,' where sutra-copying activities are held every Saturday. The third floor is the 'Lotus Treasury World,' where about 3,400 golden Buddha statues are displayed. The fourth floor is the 'Mount Gridhrakuta Room,' where the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha are enshrined for worship.
🖼 The area around the Buddha statue is planted with various kinds of flowers, allowing visitors to enjoy different flowers throughout the year, from cherry blossoms to hydrangeas, from peonies to moss phlox, and the vibrant cosmos flowers, among others. The flowers here can be picked, and visitors are allowed to pick them in moderation according to their needs. During the summer's Magnolia Bowl Festival, there are also light shows and fireworks displays, with the entire Daibutsu immersed in a festive and joyful atmosphere.
🚉 Transportation: Take the JR Joban Line to Ushiku Station. It's very convenient from Tokyo. After exiting the station, transfer to a bus at platform 2, and it takes 30 minutes to arrive.
📍 Address: Kunocho, Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
💰 Fee: 800 yen for adults, 400 yen for children.
🕙 Opening hours: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Ushiku Chateau
#2024wish
Ushiku Chateau is a nice place to unwind. The Chateau was recognised in 2008 as a National Important Cultural Property. About a 50 minute ride on the Joban line from Ueno/Nippori stations to Ushiku station. It is an 8 minute walk from the station. Denbe Kamiya, the winery's original owner, was miraculously healed from an incurable ailment after drinking wine given to him by a French acquaintance. After that Denbe Kamiya wanted to bring wine production to Japan. His adopted son Denzo helped Denbe Kamiya realise his dreams by spending a couple of years in Bordeaux where he honed his skills on the art and science of wine making. After Denzo's return to Japan they built the winery and chateau in 1903. Since then the Kamiya family has had a flourishing business in Japan. Apart from making wine, they brew world class beers, distill whiskeys, liqueurs and also import wines from all over the world. You can purchase their products on site and also online. There is a restaurant too but unfortunately it was booked for a private party. Furthermore, by the end of this year they will be closing down the restaurants, barbecue garden, souvenir shops, winery and brewery. So, you can only stroll around the gardens and museums. So, better hurry and visit this place. Cheers !
A giant Buddha in Ibaraki
#2024wish
This is the tallest Buddha statue I ever saw. 120m in height and and made in bronze which is incredible. An elevator takes visitors up 85m to an observation floor where you are able to see the surroundings up to few KM away. The museum inside provides the history of the statue with in details of construction. You never feel that you are inside one of the top 5 tallest statues in the world. We spend more than an hour inside. Beautiful gardens with verities of flowers make the place a heaven. Highly recommended...
In 2024, I want to visit this place.
Oldest Winery in Japan
#tokyotrip
This place is called a chateau for a reason - they actually made wine here in Japan all the way back to the Meiji era. The buildings are authentic, garden is gorgeous, the museum shows the rise and fall of the Kamiya family. Its good to take pictures here and buy some souvenirs in the mini shop. The winery will be closed until 4pm only.
Definitely recommend and entrance is free
We stopped by on our way to Narita to see the Ushiku Daibutsu which was coined as the tallest Budha in the world measuring 120m in height. The grounds has a beautiful garden with seasonal flowers blooming around. Denitely worth to visit. #wintergetaway
