TheForkUserThe food was edible and there was some variety; fish, chicken, vegetables, gnocchi and salad. There was a soup starter and the desserts were reasonable. The restaurant was more like a works canteen, with no atmosphere, no decor, no real wine choice. Just large with many tables laid with cutlery and glasses. For what it was, the cost of £20 per person was reasonable. The bar server allowed us to sample the wine as he had no idea what it was and there was no wine list. However, the breakfast served in the same restaurant was of better quality and a very good choice. We were disappointed that the porridge was 'make your own with hot water', which we've never bought ourselves and wouldn't expect in a restaurant!The Jack Russell

TheForkUserWe both chose a special item - the aubergine lasagne. It was really very good. We've been coming to the Maybury on and off for nearly 20 years - and it's been up and down. The beers have usually been lager, lager or lager - and the food has seldom been something special. However ... something seems to have changed for the better. They were serving Timothy Taylor Landlord - which was bright, clear and flavoursome. The Italian house white was also very good.
