I passed by this egg tart shop and bought one to try, and the result was a bit of a surprise. The crust was very flaky, you could hear it crack when you bit into it, and the custard filling was tender and perfectly sweet without being cloying. The price was also reasonable, just a few dollars each, much more affordable than many other dessert shops. If you happen to be passing by, you can buy one to try; you don't need to make a special trip, but it's worth stopping if you're in the area.
As soon as you enter, you can see the open kitchen where everything is being made fresh. The pastries are all freshly baked and still warm. There's a really wide variety; I counted several kinds of shortbread alone, and I almost had trouble choosing. Don't you guys do this too? When you see a bunch of delicious things, you want to grab a little bit of everything, haha. I certainly couldn't resist, and I took a piece of everything, ending up with a plate piled up like a small mountain.
I went on Tuesday, a members' day, and it was more crowded than I expected, but luckily I arrived before the peak meal time. The window seats were all taken, so I sat at the bar, watching the chef prepare the food was quite interesting. I ordered their signature roast chicken and a salad. The chicken skin was crispy and juicy, and the accompanying sauce had a Southeast Asian flavor, which was very delicious. The salad greens were very fresh, and the dressing was sweet and sour; a few bites after the roast chicken were just right to cleanse the palate. The music playing in the restaurant was a relaxed jazz style, not too loud, just enough to drown out the surrounding conversations, so sitting alone didn't feel awkward. After eating, I sat for a while longer, watching the sky slowly darken outside the window; it was very relaxing. Next time I want to try their pasta; the dishes the next table ordered looked pretty good.
