I passed by Zhengshunzhai once and saw a long queue, so I bought a sesame paste flatbread. The outer crust was indeed baked to a golden brown and shiny color, crumbling with every bite. The highlight was the sesame paste layer inside, which was generously portioned, sweet and fragrant but not cloying, and had a chewy texture. I recommend eating it while it's hot; the crispiness diminishes when it cools down.
Old Beijing-style sugar-coated sesame cakes, 5 yuan each. Make sure to ask the staff to heat them up for you! 🔥 The crust is crispy when they're fresh out of the oven, and they have a sesame flavor. They get much harder when they cool down. It's recommended to buy and eat them immediately, don't take them to go.
There are so many kinds of sesame seed cakes! They have five-spice, pepper salt, sesame paste, sugar, white sugar, and purple sweet potato varieties. I chose the sesame paste and sugar one. It was still piping hot when it came out of the oven. It was crispy and crunchy when I bit into it, and the sweet filling mixed with the aroma of sesame paste was just right. Sitting by the window, eating it in small bites and watching people come and go on the street, I felt a special sense of peace.
