An old friend who was doing morning exercises at the Temple of Heaven invited me to have breakfast at the Laociqikou Douzhi Restaurant. This is an old restaurant that serves Douzhi, fried tofu, mutton offal soup, big fire cakes, fried cakes, etc. It was just past seven o'clock, and diners were already seated in the small restaurant. They spent a few yuan and enjoyed the food. It is said that many elderly people have breakfast there every day without fail, and take away the fried cakes and sesame cakes they bought for their children and grandchildren before leaving.
When it comes to Beijing's specialty snacks, douzhi is undoubtedly on the list. Despite this, douzhi has its fans, with many old Beijingers using it as a breakfast staple, along with fried dough sticks, to kick off the day full of energy.
Recently I met a group of authentic old Beijingers, all of whom were nearly fifty years old, but they were crazy about old Beijing's douzhi and jiaoquan. They had a unique taste that was difficult for most people to understand and accept.
Beijingers love to drink douzhi and regard it as a kind of enjoyment. I came to the douzhi shop in the Temple of Heaven because of its reputation. The first time I drank douzhi, the smell was like swill and it was hard to swallow. I pinched my nose and drank it twice, and the feeling was different. I heard that it is rich in protein, vitamin C, crude fiber and sugar.
The old Ciqikou Douzhi shop at the north gate of the Temple of Heaven is a time-honored shop where all Beijing snacks are gathered! However, this is a local breakfast shop, so don't be too demanding on the environment. Every day, there will be a long queue of people buying breakfast, most of whom drink a bowl of douzhi, eat two fried dough rings, or have a bowl of noodle tea, bean noodle meatball soup, etc. I really like their donkey rolls, the bean noodles are fragrant, and the bean filling is sweet and not greasy. The pea yellow is also sweet and smooth when you eat it, delicious!
