The hot pot tastes OK, the base is not very spicy, the tomato soup can be drunk several bowls, and it is very appetizing. You can adjust the small condiments yourself, the sesame oil dish with tripe is very good, and my favorite is the Gongcai beef meatballs, which the waiter helped to prepare, very delicious, not overcooked, very delicious. The bone marrow is also OK, but the crispy pork is not delicious, not crispy at all.
How can you not eat hotpot when you come to Chongqing? After visiting Ciqikou Ancient Town, we started searching for delicious food and found Yangmaer Hotpot. The name is also interesting, so we decided to eat authentic Chongqing hotpot. However, when we really ate it, we could tell which one was better. Some people really couldn't stand spicy food, so we ordered two pots so that we could taste different flavors. How should I put it? I personally prefer spicy food. The spicier it is, the more fragrant it is. After all, the spicy pot with red oil floating on it feels like the authentic Chongqing hotpot.
Chongqing hotpot is world famous. You can't miss a hotpot when you come to Ciqikou. In this slightly remote Yangmaer hotpot restaurant, you can see the Jialing River. First, put the butter into the hotpot and melt it. The soup in the pot is boiling. We look down from above, staring at the dishes in the pot, raising our glasses and waving our chopsticks, busy and happy , it's like the soul is instantly injected, and all the troubles will be washed into the pot. We ordered classics: hand-shredded beef tripe, shrimp slips, goose intestines, duck blood, big knife waist slices, sea cabbage, etc., with beer and sour plum soup, it's completely addictive.
"My Chongqing Hot Pot Dining Experience: Yangma'er Hot Pot (Ciqikou Branch) - Part of My Weekly Hot Pot Series." This restaurant is known as the most hidden hot pot spot in Chongqing, and after visiting it, it truly lives up to its name! Walking along the Ciqikou Ancient Town, you'll find a small path leading uphill towards the riverbank towards Wenchang Palace. Once you reach the river, you'll see it. The restaurant is located in an old house, offering direct riverside views of Ciqikou. Because my friend can't handle spicy food, we ordered a mild broth. There was definitely less chili, probably because it's a tourist destination and attracts many visitors, so the owner mistook my friend and me, who spoke Mandarin, for tourists. Little did I know, my friend is a native of Chongqing who doesn't eat much spicy food, while I'm an outsider who's lived in Chongqing for six years and can eat spice more fiercely than many Chongqing locals... During the meal, I asked a question, and after hearing the answer, I felt incredibly ignorant (I saw two stones on the grid in the pot and asked the waiter what they were for; the waiter said it was because the grid was made of wood, and they were preventing it from floating...). When we arrived, we saw several tables already in line, thankfully we had a reservation. I guess we were seated quite far back, so the waiters didn't pay much attention; hopefully, they'll be more proactive... That's all...
"As a true southerner, I haven't eaten at many hot pot restaurants in Chongqing, so I can't really compare. I can only say it suited our tastes perfectly. Finding this restaurant was a complete accident. I hadn't read any online reviews. It was already lunchtime, and we didn't want to eat in the crowded Ciqikou Ancient Town. We wanted to see the Wenchang Palace and the Jianwen Emperor statue, so we just wandered around and stumbled upon this place. We ordered mildly spicy, but it was so spicy we felt like we were breathing fire! It was pure 'spicy but joyful'! The tripe and goose intestines were unexpectedly crisp and refreshing, the beef was very tender, and the shrimp was fresh. I highly recommend the black tofu. All the meat and vegetables were very fresh, except for the preserved mustard greens, which we didn't really like. The condiments were made by crushing the garlic yourself, which the kids enjoyed. The straws for drinking the plum juice looked like wheat straw, bringing back childhood memories! The average cost per person was around 80 yuan, which is good value!" We ate on a semi-open-air platform on the second floor. There was no air conditioning, but a gentle river breeze was blowing, and the owner even kindly provided large palm-leaf fans. It reminded me of the times I used to set up a table in front of my house in the countryside by the river for dinner in the evenings! Unfortunately, my companions were all starving, and I didn't have time to take any pictures. I hope I won't be disappointed next time I come.
